It also refused to let me know about other POIs which I wanted a proximity warning e.g. photographic sites, interesting villages etc.

I still find the free standard version of the GPS Passion database better than the paid for Pocket GPS World database for France, compare the number of camera entries

Today, TT Home 2.1 offered me a new postcodes file for my v7.05 map
Clicking on "more info..." shows it is v603 8.7MB (no idea how you check the version of your original file)

When you connect to HOME you should be offered the choice of selecting Internal memory or Memory card. Choose Memory card and you should be able to install maps to that location.
