If I bought a 530 and a TMC lead would they work the same as a 530T?

No - Garmin haven't released an update to fix the freezing / random shutdown of the 7X5 series. They may well roll out the "fix" with the ECO route uodate that will have a fuel usage, fuel cost calcu ...

Odd that there has been no mention of a similar issue with the North American models. Perhaps you are correct that it's a particular run of product with the issue.
