Hi,
I'm no expert when it comes to Sat Nav's, but by chance could your mate have too many MP3's or Audio Books stored on the Device itself?
I have a SD Card that I keep all my Music etc on.

mines not as bad as yours then, where I've had mine loose the Satelite every so ofter, but I've also had it lock up more than once which is a pain, but with it not always happening I' ... |
