OK, the new models use your smart phone for traffic update on the 3G net work instead of having a 2G sim in the device as with the 1005.

Would this also work with an iPad 3 with a monthly 3Gsubscription data sim installed.

If the iPad can use Bluetooth to share its data connection, then probably yes.

I don't think the iPad has 'personal hotspot'. It may be possible if it's jailbroken though.

The standard (WiFi) iPad doesn't seem to have PAN options (and would be useless for this purpose even if it did), but I believe (but don't have, so cannot confirm) that the 3G versions can

Perhaps someone with a connected iPad could check this out for us all... would make an upgrade worthwhile for me

I've just checked on mine, and with cellular data active, I have a "Set up personal hotspot" option, except is it greyed out. Underneath it says "Share your iPad's internet connection with your computer and iOS devices via WiFi, Bluetooth or USB"

Thus if your data plan allows it (mine probably doesn't hence being disabled), you can do the same as for the iPhone. Not tried of course, so no guarantee from me!

Was informed by 3 today that on their iPads (minis) you can create the hotspot...

If you're on The One Plan - which is their only plan that allows tethering ;)

No, I was informed that on their data only packages for iPad mini 5gb and 15gb monthly that it was allowed and included. They emailed me a copy of the live chat to confirm it

I know their phone packages only have included tethering on the one plan

Ah yes, sorry, I was referring to the phone packages, as opposed to the data-only ones.
