Hi everybody, this is my first post on the forum and I hope this question is not too stupid. I have just purchased a nuvi2595LM and have gone through the registration and updating procedure. I notice that the free area on the hard disc of my computer has dropped by 5 or 6GB after doing so. Before updating I was advised to backup my data, which I did. Since the satnav had not been used at that time it seems unlikely that there was much data to backup.

Where does the system backup data on the computer?

Can anybody explain the sudden drop in free memory space? Question Smile

Probably in updating maps they were also downloaded to your PC, if so they'll be in Program Data/Garmin/Maps.

Data back up would be nothing like that size, probably less than 1Mb.

Incidentally it's a good idea to make a complete copy of ALL the files on your nuvi, just in case. To do so on your model you'll need to set Explorer to show hidden and system files

and also set your nuvi to mass storage mode:

1. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
3. The Developers Screen will pop up
4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
6. Shut down NUVI and connect to PC
7. It should now connect in mass storage mode.

As an alternative to step 1 above, you can bring up the Nuvi's "dashboard" screen, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen.
