Hi
I have just had an Alpine W928R Nav/music unit installed in my car.
I appreciate that the only compatible Alpine listed is the PMD-B200P, but I was wondering whether someone had found a database they could 'tweak'? The iGO .txt files are not dissimilar, but obviously don't work with my Alpine 928.
Here are the first few lines of the Alpine text file database:
So, is there any database that I could use or adapt?
(I might mention that I subscribed to scdb, and after numerous emails with Support, I have asked for a refund. Their 'Installation Instructions' didn't work - I devised my own - and their database only gives me visual warnings not audible ones. Therefore, it's of little use).

So, at first glance it looks like the camera heading is being described in hex notation somehow,
I tried looking for the first couple of camera locations in your Alpine list and there *is* a 60km/h camera at N42.52194, E1.55944 (in Andorra!) and its heading looks like almost exactly 225 degrees
So how do we get from "225" to "9b298"?
Unfortunately if I repeat the exercise with any of the other sets of coordinates, I don't fond a camera there, either on the PGPSW submission map or on Streetview.
So bang goes that theory so far.
Any chance you could get a few of the UK cameras in your Alpine list? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-)

Thanks for the research and input
The problem with the database is that you are given "Western Europe" (minus France I might add...), so it's pot luck choosing a coordinate that is in the UK!
I assume that text with letters is a form of 'coding' that is unique to new-ish Alpine Sat Navs? In which case I will have to stick with the Alpine database.
It's not a problem, but I've been using PGW on my TomTom for a while now, and it IS very good, hence my preference for my new Alpine.

Bung them into excel then sort them by longitude and look for some between 0 and 4W, then look for ones above 50N that will give you only UK cams.
Problem will be is finding out how they have converted a decimal degree azimuth to the hexadecimal value in your list.
When you have found a few, post them here and the mathematical geniuses will have a look.
But I'm afraid so far I'm not seeing any pattern to the Heading info.
I suppose at a pinch you could just ignore it and put dummy values in for the heading and have a non-directional system? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-)

Thanks Andy_P
The GPS coordinates for, say, Buckingham Palace London are:
51.501356,-0.141985
That's right. That's the way Google formats it, Latitude first, then Longitude, and it uses minus signs for "south" and "west"
To enter those on a TomTom, you'd just replace the minus sign with "s" if it was a Latitude or "w" on a Longitude.
For some reason, many of the text formats for POIs (like yours) have the order swapped round, so they put the Longitude first, then the Latitude.

So I've selected coordinates with '51'.
I am still deeply puzzled by the total absence of a '0' in the entire database (!), which of course corresponds to London's latitude.
No, "0" refers to London's Longitude.... _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-)

Out of interest, where does the other list come from? - I'm thinking it may be some sort of camera ID and not a direction indicator. Even 360 is only 168 in hex.
Is it possible to make new POIs on the unit itself and if so, can you export it and see what format it uses? Even better would be if it lets you enter the direction so you can see what it gives for eg 0,90,180,270,360.
For some reason, some of the formats for POIs (eg Google) have the order swapped round, so they put the Latitude first, then the Longitude. I'm not sure if either are "correct".

converting the hex to decimal and then dividing by 10,000 gives a fair approximation with one exception.
cams in order as per Andy_P corrolation is like this:
Andy's heading = the hex number/10000
45=57
5=11
No cam
125=127
202=297
180=178
45=59
225=251
348=463
22=1.3
315=321
But of course, this is all totally academic as we don't know whether the Alpine is directional. If not, who cares what's in the last column.
Where did the OP's list come from, the Alpine database of the other speed cam site?

Yes, I saw that but thought it may not be what a bit of text at the top of the file says it should be. If you are sure it's the direction, you'll be able to say what format it's in.
Working out what the bit of code at the end means is the point of the thread. I'm just thinking that it isn't what it says it is.
