Charging a broken sat nav

So i bought a Medion sat nav for spares or repairs a while back off ebay. The problem with it is that the charging socket seems to have snapped off and doesnt work when i re-soldered it on.

Does anyone know if there is any other way i could charge the sat nav? I was thinking about directly charging the battery, but im unsure how.

Be VERY careful if you start experimenting, I'm guessing it has a Lithium Ion/Lithium Polymer battery and they are quite prone to exploding if you do things wrong

If you just want to see if the unit works and whether it's worth going any further, then what I'd do is remove the battery completely and solder two wires onto where the connector meets the PCB.
Then (if you don't have access to a variable DC bench power supply, I reckon 2 ordinary alkaline AA batteries would be enough to see if it switches on.

From the thread, I suspect you can take it that it was sold for 'spares or repairs' because it's possibly completely knackered. So I think you are possibly going at this a bit blind.

So you could ask the seller about its problems - no reason why they shouldn't say, as they sold it fairly. Then you could decide whether to try and get it going yourself, get some repair company to help (I Googled for London and quite a few came up, but I don't know where you are), or just accept that you lost the gamble!

You dont say what Medion model it is, I seem to remember they did a mio168 clone i think, if it is then it will have the gps flipping up at top, if so i think that the Gps wires can be disturbed when removing the back to change the battery, check the fo Mio168 problems on the site.

Then its not the one i thought, so ignore my post, there is quite a few reviews on the web and it appears to predate 2005. does not appear to be highly rated on the quick look i had.
