seriously that it some serious data to have on cd/dvd think how much the updates and worng map data would cost to put right navtech and teleatlas would have heartattacks Mr. Green

As I understand it, similar 3D products have been available in Japan for some time now but the 3D data is confined to urban areas of Tokyo and two or three other major centres.

Gven that similar detailed mapping has been produced for game devices such as the XBOX it's not impossible to envisage a similar product being technically possible here, the data could be stored on dual-layer DVD's for example but the problem is demand. Navigation units are virtually a standard accessory in Japan where traffic conditions are so bad that finding your way around even your home area is a trial in itself, thankfully we don't have those problems yet and so demand is unlikely to be enough to warrant such devices.

Another issue we suffer is the existence of only two or three Geodata providers who monopolise the market and so stifle innovation Sad
