Can anyone advise me which tomtom I should buy, I have an ageing 930t where the battery is dud and will not hold a charge, plus the maps are well out of date, so I thought I will buy a new one. My car is due for change too but most of the sat navs fitted into cars are fiddly to use. I use my tomtom every day as I go to lots of different addresses to do surveys, and I use the voice command feature in my tomtom to input the address of my next stop whilst I am driving. So I need a sat nav with voice command,(and maps of the canary isles cos I go there on hols a couple of times a year). Tomtoms website ios poor and it does not give a lot of advice, so any suggestions would be appreciated

Personally I'd have the battery replaced and buy a new map. I don't think any of the new devices are as good as the x20s and x30s.

My 530's internal memory has packed up, in fact can't even use it to write to an sd card, so have to use a reader/writer. I read that x30 internal memories are prone to fail. I'd recommend the x50 series. I think you can still find 950s?

If you're otherwise happy with the 930, I'd opt for a new battery and new maps.

Otherwise you'll lose Itinerary planning and the FM tuner/bluetooth Hi-fi/mp3 player, as these aren't available on new models.

Along with....

POI search radius crippled
HD Traffic incident radius crippled
MapShare still not working
Screen grab dropped
Text reader dropped
Picture viewer dropped
iPod control dropped
Bluetooth remote control dropped
Limited speed planning option dropped
Read aloud texts dropped
Read aloud Help-me dropped
Light sensor dropped.
Compass dropped
Keyboard with numbers dropped (used to have best of both, so you had numerals there only when you needed them most, eg for postcode entry)
Display of upper/lower case letters on keyboard dropped
Re-arrangement or customisation of menus dropped
SDK dropped - no super-add-ons any more
Included mains charger dropped
Fuel-prices dropped
Buddies dropped
SD card slots phased out and not enough memory put in to compensate - giving us the Zoned maps debacle
Maps with 'major roads of surrounding area' dropped
Backups dropped.
Printed manuals dropped
Addresses on POIs dropped in US - never had them in Europe
"Destination on left/right" announcement dropped
Male TTS voice dropped in UK- now no choice at all
Variable speed feature of route demo dropped

Apart from that, the new models are great!

Question Wasn't there something about Windows Explorer/Home vs MyTomTom?

If you don't need Live services then get the battery replaced in the 930.

Otherwise get a GO1000 as they are good and never had a problem with mine despite all the cynics on this forum. Laughing

I'm not a cynic, just bitterly disappointed by TomTom's missed opportunities.

When I bought my first TT's in 2005 and 2007, I was amazed at what they could do, and looked forward to them improving by leaps and bounds.

But since then, what great advances have there been? Live services have shown great promise but have failed to perform as well as we could expect ("Up to date" fuel prices included hundreds of petrol stations that had closed years before or had never existed, prices were wildly inaccurate and eventually the service was ditched in the UK. Weather reports had 1mph wind for several years without it ever changing. Traffic has had it's disastrous outages and subsequent range reductions).

Meanwhile, the basic functions were being removed hand over fist as per my list above.

I was hoping my TomTom's would include personal jet packs by now!
