I have always been a TomTom user from when they first hit the shops. I thought there GUI, route calculation speed and ease of use was by far the better product. So, I recently decided to purchase (after returning to the UK from Canada) a brand new - top of the range, TomTom 1005. Once I plugged it in and started using it for the rest of the week (I drive long distance for my job) it suffered from the Reboot problem. It also couldn't load POI's (both problems were mentioned on TomToms website and they were developing the sortware to load custom POI's and also the reboot problem they were looking into) If I pay close to £300 for a Sat Nav - not only do I want it to work without any problems but I want to install POI's and I want it to be the best out there! Far from the truth. I was so annoyed that TomTom could release a product without testing (apparently they tested the 1000 and then didn't test the 1005 and assumed it would work according to the guy from Halfords) - anyways, I decided to take the unit back to the store where I got it from - argued for about 30-45 minutes before I managed to get a replacement. The Garmin Nuvi 3760.

Now is it just me - or are a lot of sat nav companies going backwards in technology. Yes the live services from the TomTom were pretty awesome for sure, however - there was a feature I remember on the older ones where you could tune you're car stereo into the unit and hear directions through there, many of them had built in MP3 players. Updating, customising and installing POI's were a doddle and the included CD had everything you needed.... you don't even get a CD any more - everything is done online and everything costs a extra!

I have to admit - I really do like the nuvi for how it looks and also the GUI - but I have found some HUGE problems (which I am hoping people will be able to help me out on these)

1) POI's - in a tomtom you could navigate to a POI 'on route' which was excellent for finding things like petrol station's along my route (to be exact Keyfuels locations) because I drive a HGV and have a keyfuels card, I don't want to drive off-route just to refuel. I was able to find a custom POI (keyfuel locations) on the route which I had planned easily. There doesn't seem to be that basic option for a garmin - am i missing out?

2) Another huge POI problem for me was the icons for my custom PIO's not being displayed on the map. I want to show keyfuels (plus the low bridges etc from pocketgpsworld on my map view screen) however I can't find a way to display the free POI's on map (including premier inn hotels for example) - so I don't want to purchase speed cameras and low bridges because I can't seem to find a way to display them?

I have used Garmins POI loader to install my POI's and I CAN find them - but I can't see the icons on the map view. Also, I believe the new 37** series handles POI's different than other garmins - so please only let me know if you have had experience with setting up POI's and/or speed cameras on these units.

Thanks to everyone who can help in advance.
