I have a problem on the above unit. It finds all the fixed cameras except the average speed ones. It only alerts me to the last camera in the string of them. It always used to alert me while driving through them, and if I strayed over the limit it would let me know. Now it does nothing. If I remember right it seemed to happen after it was updated, but I no longer have a backup to return it to. I think it was a version 8 software it worked on.
Is this a known problem or is my unit at fault?

Who's database? TomTom or PGPSW?

Can you give an example of where this happens?

Im usng the Tomtom camera database as it came with the live traffic.
The example that comes to mind are the average speed cameras on the A127 into Southend. When I turn onto it from the A130 it doesnt register any 50mph average cameras until the last one and then tells me. It always used to let you know at the first and give you a visual warning during the string of cameras and an audible one at the last camera. Going over the camera limit would give me an audible warning, now none of this happens.
It is not limited to this set of cameras though. It does the same wherever I get to average cameras.

What you have observed is why they give the database away as its crap, you get get what you payed for which isn't very good, couple the inaccurate Specs cameras with the distinct lack of mobile camera locations and you soon get to understand why its useless - There are alternates which are accurate and considerably better, choice is really down to you - Mike

Thanks for the advice. You do get what you pay for but from experience I can now see if the cameras are only half as bad as the traffic is why this is happening.
I take it I can remove the tomtm cameras and use the pgps database but still have the traffic. I have heard stories of the new tomtom's not being able to use third party POI's.

Look through the menus on your TomTom and can you spot "Warn When Near POI" as an option? if so you can use the PGPSW database along with proper spoken alerts that will notify you both on screen and via audio of the camera type and rated speed.

The issue with the new TomTom (thats not even available for sale as yet) is not really with the device as it does support third party custom POI files but there is no way to install the files to the device!

Installing the database and removing the TomTom safety camera files is easy as your TomTom uses an established and traditional method for communication with the computer. Adding the database from here and removing the TT Cam data will have no effect with your Traffic data at all - Mike

You could always do a notification yourself, but will probably have changed your device before TT gets around to correcting it.
