Garmin nuvi 760 wont boot up after new cradle install

Hi

i recently purchased a new cradle for my nuvi760 from ebay, i made sure it was the same as the previous one.
I got it and put it all together along with the new car charger that i also purchased from ebay ( not the cheap chinese ones )
Anyway i plugged the cradle to the back of my gps and nothing, black screen.
I tried booting up after unplugging the cradle, nothing! I connected my gps to my laptop still nothing. I know there was still some battery juice in it, and it was working perfectly right before i plugged it into the new cradle.
Help appreciated.

Was the new charger of the USB variety? ... or the same as that originally supplied (which connects to the cradle, rather than the Nüvi and passes 12V through)?

Its the broader type that connects to the cradle's side
