Hi all
I bought a refurb TT530 for my daughter from TT for £119.00 on the 23/7/10 it arrived 28/7/10,absolutly pristine condition, but would not turn on even after charging for 5 hours and resetting,
Phoned TT customer care and after 5 different agents,4 out of 5 didnt know there own procedures,i managed to talk to someone who knew a bit about the unit.I got reset unit, hold start button for 10 secs, hold start button for 10 sec and press reset at same time.
Anyways after a few choice words i agreed a RMA and off it went on 2/8/10 and arrived back today.
Opened box and low and behold,,, would not turn on again.TomTom found nothing wrong with it.
I took it to work and plugged it into work computer for 30 mins, removed from home dock and reset and it fired up no problem,ok i thought its been factory reset so i will forget about that one.I left it plugged in charging and turned it of and on several times with no problem.Brought it home and plugged it into home computer, turned it on no problem,TomTom home fired up,as i have my own TT930, and the unit screen went black,So pressed reset and now again wont turn on.This definately a dodgy unit with intermittent fault. All i need now is a customer care person who understands the units and the system for returns
I will contact TT customer care in the morning and return unit for refund. It's not fit for purpose.
Should i get a TTGo730 from MNC http://www.mynewcheap.co.uk/products/details/tomtom-go-730/11484/ as we already have the RDS-TMC and Arkon mount (it doesn't say refurbished or NOH).
Or,should i go for and x40 or x50, but, this has been asked somewhere on this forum before proberbly, what do you do when the live service run out, how do recieve normal RDS-TMC(buy another antenna or docking unit)?.
Will the X40 or X50 mounts fit onto the Arkon friction beanbags as good as the Go930 does and how is it attached as the Arkon mounts wont fit x40 or x50 unit as far as i am aware.
Some advice/answers please
Thanks
Colin

I've deleted your identical post in the other forum.
It looks as though the 730 from MNC comes with RDS-TMC antenna. Not being from TomTom, it is quite possible you might also have an entitlement to getting the latest map free.
Live services on the other devices is a subscription service. Currently TT are selling it quite cheaply if you have a need for it - certainly the Traffic service is much better than RDS-TMC. _________________ Dennis

With an x40 when the Live Traffic expires you can indeed use an RDS-TMC but to connect to the normal mount it must be the RDS receiver with the mini USB plug. One other thought only applicable to the x40 you cannot use the round plug style RDS-TMC unless you purchase the accessory dock with extra sockets on the back
With an x50 when the Live Traffic expires you can use the accessory mount with the built in RDS-TMC receiver as the Mini USB style unit won't work with an x50 - Mike

Ok guys
Thanks for the replies
Sent the dead TT530 back to TomTom today for a refund. That was a fight to get them to understand "It's not fit for sale,it won't turn on,i want a full refund".They finally got the message and its off with UPS to Holland.
The active dock with the RDS-TMC already built in looks the best but it is very expensive.
I found out today,by going into Halfords and taking a replacement mount from its packet that it should fit the Arkon pad,i take it the other two will attach to pad ok?
Out of the two,x40 or x50 the only difference i see is x40 has 3mths Live and x50 has 12mths Live subscriptions which is recommended by the users on here for useability, reliability etc.
