Hi. Have a Garmin 205WT and when in a 30MPH zone it frequently indicates on the alert screen an icon that says 19mph zone. I am unaware of any 19mph zones in the area I live. I trust I have posted this in the correct forum. Please advise and thanks in advance.

Hi Colboy20.
Welcome to our forums.
Your problem is a MPH/KPH thing. (19MPH = 30KPH. ) I think it's a setting in POI loader that I believe defaults to KPH.
An expert will be along in a while, if you havn't sorted it by then.

You have installed the POIs using POILoader set to 'Meters and km/h' rather than 'Feet and mph'. This is explained in the install guide.

To correct you must re-install but this time ensure you change the POILoader settings to use MPH rather than KM/H.

Why Garmin choose metric as the default I can't understand, particularly as an American company!

Perhaps it's because more of the world's population use metric rather than Imperial. Very Happy But, given that, I'm surprised that the Americans bow to common useage. Confused

Hi again

Thank you for your advice but the POI loader is set to feet and mph when I load the Garmin and it frequently warns 19mph zone.

I imagine if I had inadvertantly loaded the metric version it could not have said '19MPH'.

Any more advice please.

I don't mean to question you but as we have no 19mph cameras in the UK database that isn't possible.

You are in the UK and using the UK database? And have you tried a re-install whilst checking that the POILoader setting is correct?

Yes to all your questions. POI loaded feet and mph and using uk map.

I have out on the same route as yesterday with the reinstalled poi and yes it says 19 mph zone.

I will try again tomorrow and let you know the result.

Thank you
Colin

have you installed the POIs to the device? sounds like the existing ones haven't been overwritten...

run poi loader and select the option to remove all pois.

take it for a drive and confirm you get NO warnings.

THEN try a reinstall of the POIs

This is a regular question that comes up over and over again. The answer is ALWAYS related to the mph/kph issue. I recommend that you look a little bit closer at how you have installed the cameras.

Also check the garmin/poi folder on the unit. You should have ONE file called POI.GPI.

Delete any files you have in that folder (or MOVE them to your PC) and reload the database.

Paul,
Could the Garmin hidden file/recycle bin thingy be in play here?

Possible but it's usually associated with POIs that won't go away. i.e. Speed cameras that have been removed from the database but still appear on the device when the latest database is loaded.
