My TT1V3 has just started playing up this week, after 2 years of faithful service.

It seems to freeze up for ages, then goes to select language, unit/time/voice settings, and then shuts itself off, and does the same again when restarted, and won't allow itself to be used past this.

Earlier this week, it was going into owner/continue/owner and then going no further.

Any ideas as I actually like this unit, and it has always been good until now?

If it looks like it's changing pages by itself, it could just be a bit of grit under the bezel causing spurious screen "taps".

Try running the corner of a piece of stiff paper or thin card around all four sides, between the screen and the bezel.

Hopefully, it's that simple!

Not that simples I'm afraid.

Currently doing a format of it, and if that doesn't work, may send it back to TT for them to sort, but if the cost is prohibitive, then it may go in the round filing cabinet to be replaced by another one.

Did that as part of the clearing process, and still no joy.

Looks like a call to TT on Monday then.

Right. Rung TT tech type guys yesterday, and he talked me through how to get mine to work again, and it turned out to be a corrupt file in the map, which co-incidentally happened after an update from the TT home page......

Cynical? What do you think. Confused

But I wonder how many people who had the same update, would, like what I was thinking of doing, go buy a new unit?

I don't think you can accuse them of cynically trying to get you to buy a new model, if they helped you to fix it as soon as you asked them for help. Smile

What did you update the map or the NavCore?

If the map, it's a fairly common thing for the old mapsettings.cfg file to not work with the new map. Out of 4 map updates i've had to delete mapsettings.cfg on 3 occassions....

Could have saved a lot of time and a phone call if you had just done a reset to factory settings Very Happy as that would have deleted the mapsettings.cfg file.

If I have similar random problems I always follow the same route

Reset by holding down the power button until you get the boot status screen (this is non-destructive and cures lots of glitches - it is a paperclip in the hole underneath on older devices)

Run clear flash 3 times (the magic number apparently - again, non-destructive)

Reset to factory settings (getting to the last resort now as all settings are lost)

Format and clean install of Navcore, maps, voices, zip, raster etc - always done manually using WinRAR and always the last resort.

I don't bother with backups as I create all favourites as POIs and back them up on a regular basis - it only takes a few minutes to enter LIVE details and redo the POI warnings after a clean install.
