nuvi 350 Serial Number

My neighbour John has a Nuvi 350 which he wants to update with the latest maps, prior to another jaunt round Europe.

He gets a fair way into the download procedure and is asked for his serial number. The only serial number he can find is a barcode number on the side of box, when input the site says 'this serial number is already registered????

In the drop down list of models there is not a straight 350 Nuvi. There is a 350 Honda USA and some other variants.

Any light that can be shed on this will be much appreciated.

The Serial Number is on a sticker, under the flip-up GPS receiver module. (Above the speaker and below the Reset switch).
