Hi all,

One of our users is getting this error on a Go540 when planning a map and/or doing other things on the device:

'Unable to store Map Settings: File Access Error'

Any idea what this is? It started a few days ago. This user has never connected his GO540 to a computer (hasn't even got the docking station).

I've updated the device completely today, using HOME, applying all the offered program, etc. updates but the error is still happening.

Thanks for any suggestions guys.

Florian

Use Windows Explorer to delete the "MapSettings.cfg" file from the UK&ROI map folder, the device will create a new file which should overcome the error - Mike

Whether or not this is related to the problem I'm having on this thread, but I was recieving this error (showing in a red box and yellow writing) a couple of days ago after a HOME update on Sunday.

I deleted the mapsettings.cfg which appeared to resolve this problem, but not my Traffic display issue.

On earlier models (e.g. my 720s, 920 and 730) this seemed to be caused by using both the RDS-TMC feature and the Bluetooth phone handsfree feature together.

Hmm, deleting the mapsettings.cfg was the first thing I did but it hasn't helped, I still get the error message.

I also did a factory reset (Settings) and rebooted the device a few times - no difference.

Thanks for your help so far guys, is there anything else you can think of before my life takes a turn for the worse (i.e. ringing TomTom support....)

Before doing the update (or even since), have you done a Windows backup of the device? Was there any error messages for any of the files when you did the copy?

Download and run the Clear flash tool found here. Run it 3 times. Supposed to help for this kind of error.

Thanks for your continued help with this!

I have tried an Explorer backup and no file errors were reported. I also ran the Clear Flash Tool 3 times after your suggestion but nothing seems to help.

One of my team has been using this TomTom since new (purchased a few months ago) and it hadn't been connected to HOME since an initial update after purchase.

The file access error started a few days back when he programmed a journey and, whilst the 540 seems to work ok planning and following guidance, very regularly it shows this error (indeed yellow writing in a red box - Graeme)

App 8.371 Map v840.2562

Ready to throw in the towel yet?

Is there an SD Card in the slot underneath?

Assuming there is no memory card in the device it might be time to format the device (don't use the Quick format option as its not good enough) then re-install the back up to the device - Mike

Try deleting the gnsdata file in the gns folder - it was always this file on my 920 that caused the issue.

Run a Windows CheckDisk as well.

No, there's no memory card in the device, just an empty slot.

I'll try the re-formatting over the weekend and also deal with the gnsdata file at the same time.

Here's hoping.....

Thanks again, I'll post the result

Assuming your TT is drive letter E, make sure HOME is completely closed (no icon in system tray), the syntax for a Windows CheckDisk from a command prompt is
Code:
chkdsk e: /f /v /r /x

If you drive letter is not E, change the e: to f: for example
