If you're after street navigation software (like TomTom Navigator), I believe all the major products are fine in Scotland. The problems come with Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic, where map coverage is nothing like as good as for England, Scotland and Wales.

Thanks for the quick reply, its just that when you look at their hompage
http://www.tomtom.com/products/content.php?ID=242&Section=1620&Language=1

it looks like scotland not included at all - I think I'll try mailing their support department just to be sure.

If you look at the Great Britain graphic, the whole of Scotland is coloured in Red.

I have Navigator 3 on my iPAQ sat in front of me - so far as I can tell, the Scottish coverage in the Great_Britain map is fine, though I've not used it in Scotland (not least because I live near London).

I think there'd be howls of protest if there was a coverage problem in Scotland with Navigator 3, as nobody ever complained of major coverage problems in Scotland with Navigator 2. I haven't seen any complaints about Navigator 3's Scotland coverage.

Think Scotland is included in GB map, looks like the bit at the top.
Not sure if Northern Isles included.

Cheers

Scotland is indeed in the Great_Britain map. If I remember rightly, there's also a sectional map called Scotland.

I showed my system to a relation who lives in Shetland, and she was impressed with the places in Shetland that were covered (this was Navigator 2, not Navigator 3, but I doubt the map data has got worse).

soerentoft,

I've been using TT3 \ Dell Axim in the Edinburgh area now for well over a month without any problems.

The great thing about it is if you are likely to be in scotland most of the time then you can load the 'North' map which is only 32MB in size. This seems to cover the whole of Scotland (including islands) as well as northern England.

The best thing is, as it's only 32MB in size I've managed to install the map on the internal storage of the Axim instead of the SD Card...... result? much quicker!!.

I've also installed the GB maps (101MB) onto the SD Card but they way I've set it up means that I don't need the SD card in the axim unless I'm travelling down past Cumbria

I read other threads about people saying the maps were slow when using the memory cards and so far I haven't experiances any slowness.... probably because us folk up north can load 'our' maps into memory Thumbs Up

I've tried a couple of test areas in and around central scotland and all has been fine - I've also tried a few fictitious routes from edinburgh to the highlands and they also seemed to work fine Happy

Don't think you'll have any problems Wink

Hope this helps

Regards

wHIZz, which car cradle/connection lead are you using ? I'm trying to get a X3i connected to a TT GPS but I cannot find a car cradle available.

davewave1,

I purchased the Wired GPS kit from PDA Mods - it arrived VERY quickly and had it all connected and working with my X3i in under 30 mins Happy

The kit I bought is on this page (4th package down)

http://www.pdamods.com/products.asp?cat=24

You specifiy the crade you would like when you purchase the package, however, the box didn't include the cradle in the picture - instead I received the silver windscreen mount that you can see on the same webpage further up on the right hand side. I'm more than happy with it

Thumbs Up

wHIZz, thanks for the info. I was waiting for TT to release their car cradle but given up with them as their reply yesterday was that they had no idea when it would be available.

Just ordered a Seidio GS2500 mount from Handnav (http://www.handnav.co.uk/product_details.php?id=170) after reading on reviews on Aximsite http://www.aximsite.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=34&daysprune=30&sortorder=desc&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=25&pagenumber=2. This is the best Axim forum I've found so far but http://www.aximusers.com/ is useful.

Seen the X30 - might be a good upgrade next year !
