Hello
I've download, installed and activated PocketGPS safety cameras but I've just driven from Brighton to London and back and they don't seem to work. I went through each catagory with manage POI's as instructed. Please help.

Thanks
John

Hi johncrampton,

I think more info is needed! What satnav? How did you download? Any error messages? What so you mean by 'manage POIs as instructed'? Other questions may arise once we know a little more.

THEY DO WORK HONEST Laughing

Hello
thanks for the prompt reply. Sorry forget to mention which satnav.
I Have a Tom Tom Go 730. After installing I went to Manage POI's and then Warn when near POI. I pressed on each camera type, pressed 400 yards, chose each sound, unticked Warn only is POI is on route.

Thanks
John

A few things -

a) When you say that you get no warnings, is that visual, audible or both?

b) In the TT Folder where your map is stored you have three files for every safety camera catagory with the exact same wording apart from the file extensions, i.e.-- *.ov2, *.bmp & *.ogg. You may also have an optional 4th file called *_X2.bmp

c) when you say you chose each sound, what sound did you choose? To get the Spoken_Warning.ogg files to work from this site, you need to select "sound effect". However, when you select this you can't hear a confirmation sound, just carry on regardless.

EDIT - ignore the following question d). I have just re-read your original post.

d) how did you test? By demo route? or by driving past known camera position? Have you checked that the camera is on the Camera Submissions MAp? - You may be testing against a camera that has not yet been submitted!

When you get to the screen that says Is this the sound you want to use" the device doesn't play a sound, make sure you select YES to carry on with the process, pressing No will crash the device - Mike

Hello alionhols

the sounds I chose were the usual options ... bell, cow, trumpet etc. I don't get visuals or audio. Nothing at all.
I looked in the map folder and all the files you mention are there (apart from last one). I tried it out on round trip from Brighton to London.

Which database download did you use? Speed-zoned, or Consolidated by Type?

How many different camera types can you see when you set the Warnings?

Have you ensured that you have selected Show POI on Map for each camera type?

We might have missed an obvious one....

Do you tick the "warn only when on route" option when you set up each camera type?

If you did, and then just drove, without getting the TomTom to calculate the route for you, then the alerts will not happen.

Hello all
thanks for your time in solving this.
I used speed zoned. I saw loads of different speed cameras when I set the warnings. Yes I have selected Show POI on map.

Thanks
John

How many is "Loads"? I'm just wondering if you have either not copied all the files across, or overstepped your POI category limit (should be around 169 in total), which means that some of the files aren't showing.

Can you select one of the cameras that you passed which should have been showing, and confirm that the relevant category is actually presnt on your device? (e.g if it was a 40mph Gatso, is the 40mph Gatso category present?).

(... and Andy's question is still very relevant - did you have a route set when you were on your journey?)

Hi Andy_P
Yes I definately had chosen a route. I've driven quite a few long journeys since installing but absolutely nothing comes up. No audio, no alerts. When I first installed the cameras the only alerts I got were the Tom Tom alerts. So uninstalled the Tom Tom alerts with Home.

I will check out Daggers query ASAP. I only have the standard Tom Tom Go 730 POI's on my satnav, so would installing PocketGPS safety camera take me over my POI's limit?

Thankyou all for your time
John

Think we need to go back to the beginning here. If you have not installed any other POIs then the POI limit is not the issue here.

Can you create an A to B trial route that goes past a known camera and demo it?

Hello Darren
I've just done a "Prepare Route" and watched the demo. The known safety cameras didn't appear.
Perhaps I should just uninstall the pocketgps cameras and re-install again?
What's the best way to uninstall?

Thanks
John

Ok, not even a visual indication?

Can you tell me what map you use (do you have more than one map installed).

Also if you browse Manage POIs, Warn When Near. Do you see any PocketGPSxxx entries and if you do, do they have a loudspeaker icon next to them (signifies a warning has been configured).
