As some of you know, TT shipped my 920 back to Holland for testing and repair to fix a number of issues, but mainly the fact that handsfree keeps causing the unit to lock up and reboot, and has since day one. Many others are affected by this same issue.

Mike kindly lent me a 930 whilst it has been on 'holiday'.

Anyway, after over 2 weeks they have finally responded - and guess what - No Fault Found!

Apparently the fault is not reproduceable despite 'extensive' testing. They also said that they have returned other units to Holland for the same reason and couldn't find any fault with them either.

I should have it back on Thursday so I will test then but my guess is that within a day or two it will be crashing and rebooting on handsfree calls. Or repeating words. Or stuttering. Or missing words out completely. Or stuttering on mp3 playback etc.

I will update when it is back but has anyone else sent their unit back for a similar problem?

You need to video it and load to YouTube to show them Wink

If I had the facility I would do. I have asked them to provide me with a UK based technical representative for a day and they can sit in the passenger seat and observe all of the non existent faults first hand!

Create a new Twitter account called @TomTomSuck and then tweet your issue with a link to a summary of the problem or a link to this thread.

Then tweet it at every person who mentions TomTom and TomTom themselves.

I reckon that a little work doing that might get your case the attention it deserves rather quickly!

Very similar idea to a distributed denial of service - more like a distributed slagging off of TomTom!

I've already seen a few Twitter directed attacks and it would seem that if done properly they can get you the attention you deserve rather quickly!

Might just do that the first time the damn thing stutters or repeats a word or misses a word out or crashes on a phone call or loses all audio altogether during/after a phone call or refuses to connect to any previously paired BT device without a hard reset or stutters on mp3 playback

I could go on Laughing

Laughing Grab @TomTomSucks on Twitter, it's free and you don't have to use it straight away.

You could pass it on once your issue is resolved Evil or Very Mad

I suppose you'll be able to reproduce it in no time at all, simply by connecting the RDS-TMC antenna. You may even be able to reproduce it by making a hands free phone call! Maybe even taking it outside and mounting it in a car?

Did it have the gnsdata file before it went and does it have it when it gets back. I'd imagine their very first touch would have been to checkdisk, reset, format, reload, long before they tried any tests.

It is back!!

My 100% guaranteed to be fault free 920 (their words, not mine) is in a worse state then when I sent it off!

Onn first power up with nothing connected I have a traffic sidebar quite happily trying to download traffic data - very odd as no RDS-TMC plugged in or connection to a mobile phone. Power off and on again, still doing it. Power on and off another 3 times - still doing it.

Hard reset - that got rid of it! - 100% guaranteed fault free my arse.

I asked for it to be tested with the BT Remote connected as connecting the remote cause the audio equivalent of WW3 - went to connect the remote and guess what - I was prompted to accept the connection from a new remote control. That bit wasn't tested then.

I asked them to test for stuttering whilst street names etc were being read out - checked the voice options and guess what - TT had turned off the read out street names. I bet that stopped it stuttering. Shame that the default option is turned on, so they have consciously done this.

There was a gnsdata file Dennis, but I reckon that is from the GPRS traffic service as they have left all of the testers Plus account details in there and there is the pluserror log showing connection errors on the 9th June - well done TT I asked you to test it with RDS-TMC and you used GPRS traffic instead.

I can hardly navigate to a postcode now as it is pot luck as to which letter you get when you touch the screen - it will either be the one next to or the one above where you have touched the screen. Makes the menus a bit of a lucky dip as well.

I am about to write a very strongly worded to the CEO demanding a replacement unit and compensation as this is just taking the .

Ye gods!! You couldn't make it up, could you?

So I suppose I'm not getting a borrow of the pool 930 yet?

I'm off to Corfu in a few hours. Do please try to get it sorted out by the time I get back in a fortnight - my 920 is in need of some TT TLC. (That's not the stutter, by the way).

Still got the 'pool' 930 - thanks Mike.

Seeing as I can't live without a Satnav as I seem to now only have the ability to navigate to my car without it and no further you may have to wait until Mike comes looking for me or TT actually fix/replace the 920

Have a good time in Malta! I look forward to detailed timings of satellite fixes without using qGPSFix Laughing

You could also do some completely random mapshare updates for Malta whilst you are there .......

No call logs or gpstracks on the device so they didn't go anywhere or test handsfree either. Seeing as they have left the pairing for someones mobile in there and the PLUS account details of a TT employee they haven't cleaned up after themselves.

Oh, and the only evidence of any testing is on the 9th June according to the pluserror.txt file - god knows why they were testing with GPRS traffic when I sent my RDS-TMC receiver back and asked them to test with that.

They must think end users are idiots.

A very strongly worded letter is in the post to the CEO. If I do not get a suitable response I will post all the gory details on here, as well as a free PLUS account for everyone to use once I work out where the password is stored......

Thought it was time for another update on this sorry tale.

2 weeks ago today I reached an agreement with TT regarding my 920 and it being replaced with a suitable alternative model.

To this date I am still waiting. I was assured on the telephone that the device would be shipped to me on Wednesday 8th July. All I am getting now is that they are still waiting for it to be authorised and I will receive an update tomorrow (that was on 14th July). I have chased it since then and now they are just ignoring me.

So, 7 weeks after sending my TT back for testing and repair I am still left without a working TT. If it wasn't for the goodwill of others in loaning me one I would have had to go out and buy another SatNav by now!

I am leaving it until the end of the week and then it is time to take matters further - Watchdog, The Register etc will be getting informed.
