|
|
I am trying to decide which TomTom to go for.
I have had a TTGo300 for about 4 years and am happy with it.
However I want a more streamline version.
The two I have narrowed it down to are:
XL IQ Routes™ edition Europe
and
GO 730
There is over £100 difference. GO 730 being the dearest.
Is the GO 730 worth £100 more?
However with the XL IQ Routes™ edition Europe I take it this had no SD card slot for upgrades?
Before anyone suggests a Garmin, I tried a Garmin Nuvi 265w and it died on me after 2 days so I got my money refunded.
Thanks _________________ ___________________________

With the 730 you get the ability to use the device as a handsfree kit for car and it offers mp3 player and uses the Text To Speech system for reading out road names instead of simply saying turn left etc. It is a far more capable device, but if you don't need the handsfree or TTS then the XL IQ is still a very credible device, only you can work out if the extras are worth paying the additional purchase cost.
The XL IQ only has internal memory with no expansion slot, the 730 has an D card slot which can accept cards up to 32GB in capacity - Mike |

Thanks Mike.
I think the GO730 is the one I'll go for.
Cheers

The TTS is 'activated' as such by selecting a computer voice rather than one of the recorded voices. _________________ David |

All you have to do to use the TTS with the 730 device is select a computer voice such as Simon or Kate, very easy and its supplied built in to the device - Mike |

And if the price is a problem there are some very good TomTom refurbished 730 units (see for example TotalPDA). I bought a refurbished 720 from them when they were still available and it was indistinguishable from new

Brilliant. Thanks for the tip. Just looked on their website and they have one including carry case for about £90 less. _________________ ___________________________

Buyer beware!!
If you are going to use it as a hands free do check your phone will work.
I purchased a 520 (now works as a 530 with software upgrades) to use as a hands free device. Worked out of the box just fine. But now after upgrades (which you have to do if you want new maps) hands free does not work. TT refuse to acknowledge this and you will find its all down to you, wrong phone (mine is still the same) corrupt upgrade (automatic).
Better to see if the phone will pair with the device and then phone someone and get someone to call you. Not a guarantee it will work the next day but better than just expecting it will work, it more likely wont _________________ TT520 running App 8.351 & map UK&I v845.26345
