I'm thinking of buying a new live services device, but I'd also like to play MP3s through the TT Go (I don't like the fact that the iPod connection doesn't allow control from the iPod or charge it).

This brings me to a question:

Are there any good (reliable) 3rd-party MP3 players that can be installed on the TomTom and operate in the background of ordinary navigation, with voice instructions pausing the music for a few seconds, then the music restarting? I have heard of TomPlayer but I don't know much about it - or even whether it'll work on the X40 devices.

If not, then my alternative seems to be to shell out another 100 (at best) pounds for a 940 when I'd never use maps for Europe or the USA.

I really would like to have the live services and text-to-speech, as I have a 530 with GPRS traffic now (which is patchy) so my choice would be from the X40 devices only.

Thanks for any help...

The 940 has TomTom jukebox - an MP3 player.

Assuming it is the same as the one in my 730, then it will do all you ask. So, I don't think you need a 3rd party one (I haven't heard of one being available)

I think the OP knows the 940 has the mp3 player, but isn't keen to pay another £100 to get it when he doesn't need the maps.
That's why he wants to know about add-on ones for the 540.

I've no experience of the add-on ones myself though, so all I can suggest is a look at the sticky topic at the top of the index for 'third-party add-ons' and check out the various players there.
