If I change my 730 so that the music comes out over the radio or over an external set of speakers, I do not seem to have any control over the volume level.

I am sure it used to work when I first got the device (I was in a hotel room listening to music when I first got it) so either some update has disabled this or my uniot has gone bad.

Can someone try this out and tell me if they can adjust the volume on a set of headphones or speakers please?

thanks

Alan

Alan, what you have found is correct, one of the recent updates has indeed made volume adjust for the external connections such as FM and Line Out pre-set at what TomTom call an optomised level to avoid distortion.
They say this allows a user to adjust the navigation voice level from the built in speaker using the TomTom volume control and then use the car stereo to adjust the volume for music.
If you play both music and nav instructions via an external audio connection then you are left high and dry with no way to level the different audio being sent from the Nav unit.
I would like to see a set up screen where all audio levels can be adjusted (AndyP one of the forum members even mocked up such a screen a while ago which would be ideal) sadly this seems to have fallen on deaf ears - Mike

And if you remember Navcore 7.221 you could adjust the mp3 playback volume independently.

I think 7.480/1 made it all one volume control.

2 steps back ......

That's rubbish. What happens if I am listening on headphones? I want to be able to set the music level myself - it's far too loud at the moment for comfort.

Who do I complain to to see if this can be corrected?

I've also heard them say it is now at an "optimised volume" That's rubbish... it's set to FULL, making a mockery of their claims it is to reduce distortion.

The worst of it is if you want to plug an ordinary pair of headphones into the TT just to listen to some music on the train or wherever.
With the volume fixed at 100%, it blows your ears off!

Do please contact TomTom to complain... the more that do, the more likely it is they'll do something about it.

EDIT: I was typing as you replied.... you beat me to it with the problem of using headphones.

I have sent a mail to TomTom support as follows:

"A recent update seems to have disabled the volume control for the music on my Go 730.

The level proposed by the device is far too loud for normal headphones and I get deafened when i try and listen to my music.

Please can you advise me when you are going to re-instate this feature so I can listen to my music without damaging my eardrums."
