Due to a data uploading error, I now have loads of POI's that have arrived in my favourites filling it up. How can I delete these, preferably without losing the favourites I want to keep. There are too many to do them individually. Any help appreciated!

Tom

There is no method for programatically deleting Favourites - you can only add to them. You don't say which Nüvi you have, but some of them let you 'mark' individual Favourites and then just delete the marked ones. All units let you delete all Favourites (through a variety of unit-specific methods).

If you take the latter route, you can save your existing favourites to a PC, delete all of them from the unit and then just load back the ones you want.

The Trial version of GeePeeEx Editor can accomplish this for you (see sig. for details). Connect the Nüvi to the PC and use the "Import Favourites" function. Disconnect the Nüvi and use whatever method it provides for clearing out all the Favourites. Then re-connect the Nüvi and use the "Export Favourites" function to restore your selected Favourites.

(Before embarking on anything, make a copy of the \Garmin\GPX\Current.gpx file, which is a backup copy of your Favourites. If things go horribly wrong, you can re-instate your Favourites from this file (you may have to rename it something other than Current.gpx, depending on the unit).

Sorry, I have the Nuvi 270 not 255. Thanks for your response I will try your suggested route.

So far so good, I have imported all the favourites to GeePeeEx and disconnected my Nuvi 270 (not 255). I have also created a new temp file with the ones I want. I did attempt to export this however I cannot find a way to clear all the favourites on the Nuvi which stubbornly remain.

Looking at the online manual, it looks to me like you'll have to follow the "Clearing User Data" procedure to delete your Favourites.

It says:-
  • Hold your finger on the lower-right corner of the Nüvi screen while turning on the Nüvi
  • Keep your finger pressed until the pop-up window appears.
  • Touch Yes to clear all user data
It claims "All original settings are restored. Any items that you have saved are erased". (I doubt it will, but that could potentially include JPEGS and Custom POIs - in other words make sure you have backups of anything that you wouldn't want to lose)
