Anyone here have any opinions on the relative merits of the Mac and Windows versions of TomTom Home software ? I have a Mac capable of running either, but all things being equal I would rather run the Mac version. _________________ Tony

I too have Macs capable of running either and all things being equal it's as big a pile of **** in Mac as it is in Windows.
It's not better or worse in Mac so for me it gives me one less reason to sully my desktop with a Windows OS _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks. In fact I've just installed the Mac version and it seems fine. For some reason I originally installed the Windows version because I had seen some comment somewhere about the Mac version being sub standard. I agree it's not a particularly pleasant piece of software. _________________ Tony

To be fair the mac version used to be much worse. But it is now released concurrent with the Windows version and is on the same release version. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Biggest problems (IMHO) with the Mac version of TT Home is that TYRE (surely one of the most useful bits of software written for the TT?) has not been ported to Mac. If you have an Intel Mac of course you have the option of Boot Camp or a Windows emulator such as Parallels. I find TYRE to be almost essential when compiling my personal favourite POIs because of its seamless integration with Google Maps _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

The other thing still missing from the Mac version is the "operate my device" function. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Now that didn't work before, but it does now with my TT720. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

Hmmm! Definitely doesn't work with my GO700.
And I've upgraded the TT Home to the latest 2.6.2.264 _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Likewise. Doesn't work on my 940 - I get the menu icon but when I select it it tells me it is an unsupported function. _________________ Tony

Likewise, I am using the latest Mac version of Home, 2.6.2.264, but 'Operate my Go' does not work on my 720.
It worked briefly on the previous version of Home, but seemed to use the version of Navcore/maps on the internal memory rather than the more recent versions of both which were on the SD card... |

You guys have me worried now
It doesn't work on my 710 for sure.
Going to try again with 720 and will edit this psot with result.
Will also post what my different specs are as well.
Edit.
Go 720, 8.302.
Home 2.6.2.264
OSX 10.5.6
Operate my Go, definitely works, just tried it. When I bought the 720, updated it to latest 730 spec ect. Not sure if that is an issue.
Operate my Go didn't use to work until about 3 Home updates ago, one of the main reasons I was worried about doing the next few Home updates because I thought it might break it.
Edit - again.
All my stuff is running off the SD card and not internal memory. Haven't updated that for a while - or even looked at it, so not sure what version of what is in there to be honest. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |
