Hi,

I have an Ipaq and a Fortuna Clip-on GPS which is currently use with TomTom.

Will Mapopolis work with this GPS unit?

The reason I ask is that this GPS uses SiRF rather than NMEA.

Regards

Al

The GPS is also NMEA 0183v2 compliant, so it will work.

Well I guess I have a problem!

I have TomTom 2 already installed and works fine.

I have followed the advice about removing TomTom GPS 2.08 so it doesn't hijack the BT.

I have a good fix on my Clip-On.

But when I set up Mapopolis with Port 6 and 38400 baud all I get is "Checking COM6" and then nothing! The Blue LED on the Clip-on flickers as it does with TT2, but seemingly no data available for Mapopolis! I have tried the Auto-detect function as well!

Does anybody have any thoughts?

many thanks

Is the GPS running in SiRF or NMEA ? If SiRF, try re-configuring for NMEA as most apps prefer NMEA.

Actually, Mapopolis will ONLY accept a NMEA stream.

The Clip-on gps is seemingly providing both SiRF and NMEA correctly, as I can select either on TomTom2 and get a fix.

It's just really weird that Mapopolis can't seem see the data.

Reinstalling Mapopolis didn't help either!

Oh well!!!

Hi, again,

Mapopolis has customers using the Clip-On, so are you sure that you're actually setting it for an NMEA stream and using it in the standard mode? (Not the X-mode.) Also, note that you need a specific procedure to switch from one mode to the other, so please reference your documentation.

OK good news!!!

I have managed to get it to work!!!

It seems that sometimes regardless of the hardware switch on the Clip-on it starts in XT mode which doesn't have a NMEA data stream.

I have fiddled with it and hey presto.

The correct settings as as per the instruction leaflet COM 6 38400 baud.

Thanks everyone for their help.

Hi There

It seems i have the same problem. I recently upgraded to TT GPS 3.03.
On 3.00 it worked but i no longer have the driver for it.

n Mapopolis the bluetooth settings point to com4 however when i try to use com 6 it says GPS Port (Com 6Smile is not available.

I've tried flicking from st to xt and back to st again on my fortuna bt clip on but no joy. It works when i start the drive manually and it works with tom tom.

I'm off to the states in a couple of weeks and need to get it working.

Please help!!!

Cheers in advance

jase
