I use my tomtom regularly in the car and up to now have used this site to solve problems with it, I am also a subscriber to the camera database. I ride my bike to keep fit, and wanted to know, is there a GPS device or whatever, I could buy so I could plan different routes, input various co-ordinates to follow along the route and also find out how far I have ridden? GPS devices are something I know little about, obviously you can plan a cycle route with the the tomtom but I dont always follow the roads and dont want to carry the tomtom around with me. They must do something that can fit in your pocket that I could check from time to time? Also to a certain extent I'm not really bothered about price, after 40 years I have learned that on the whole you get what you pay for. But if there is a value product out there that does the job then - you know best! _________________ Graham

I would take a look at the Topo Mapping devices, Garmin do some but I don't like their mapping display. The one I would look into is the SatMap active10, it will record where you have been and its possible to pre-plan a route on the device or using the PC. The big plus point is the display as it uses Ordnance Survey mapping which is about the best you can get. The device also has an accessory mount so it can be secured to the bike, and it is waterproof.
A cheaper option would be Memory Map, Quo or Anquet Topo mapping software running on a PDA, the PDA can also be clipped to the bike if fitted in side an Otter Box which will keep it safe when it rains - Mike
