I'm thinking of upgrading my maps from UK and NI to Western Europe on my TT520 when my subscription for the upgrades runs out!
However I have a restricted amount of space on the drive and have to consider putting the map on my memory card.
Can I do this and if so:
a) what do I name the folder as?
b) what do I do with the old map? (no rude answers please! )
(I assume that I import the PGPS speed camerfas into the new folder)
Thanks in anticipation _________________ Furry Fred

Yes you can do this.
The storage card file structure replicates that of the internal memory. When you buy a map via HOME it will detect a memory card and ask you which location to install the map.
As for the existing UK map you can keep it or remove it, choice is yours. _________________ Darren Griffin |

A few more points....
In order for any of this to be possible, Home will require you to update your Go's software to v8.300. The latest maps cannot be used by older software. MAKE A FULL BACKUP ( with Windows Explorer) first.
The map folder will be called "Western_Europe" or "Western_and_Central_Europe" (depending on what version you buy), but as Darren says, you don't need to worry about that.
Home will handle the installation and all you need to do is tell it that you want to put it onto the SD card. You do that when Home first starts up.
The 520 (and the other x20, x30 and x40 models) can use the internal memory *and* the SD card simultaneously, so you can leave everything exactly as it is now and simply add the new map to a card. (Older models had to have everything transferred onto the SD card if you wanted to use it).
Once Home has installed the map onto the card, all you have to do (on the Go itself) is go to Change Preferences/Manage maps/Switch map and choose the new Europe map.
The TomTom internal memory and the SD card slot are seen as two distinct new disk drives by Windows. so POIs, speed camera files etc. can be copied into the new "Western_Europe" folder using normal Windows "copy and paste" routines.
Hope all that helps... |
