Waypoints?

Having recently taken receipt of an Active 10, I have read through most of the online user manuals, and read through most of the forum subjects but have never seen reference to how many waypoints you can insert into a single route. Is there a limit?

None that I am aware of Terry. While most people will only have limited number of points in routes that they prepare, the logs of routes run can contain many hundreds of points and this file is effectively the same as a planning route. So I don't think you need worry.

the waypoint limit in one route is 1000 which is more than enough, if you need more finish the route and then start a 2nd route with the last waypoint of route 1 as the 1st point of route 2 then you have another 1000 waypoints. If you do use lots of waypoints move the saved routes to the SD card this will keep the internal memory as free as poss.

Thanks for that gearguru. As you say more then enough waypoints for one route. It was having had a Garmin Venture Cx with a max of 99 waypoints per route, and having to split a long walk into as many as three sections it came as a pleasant surprise for the Active 10 to have that many. Strange that there is no mention of max waypoints in the Tech specs.

How you plan a walk is really down to personal choice, I prefer to have as few waypoints as really needed, Start, decision points and alternate route markers should the weather turn, these alternate points provide a start point to an alternative (and often faster) method to get down to a safer level, finally the end point.

In use with the active10 you can see your position on the map at all times, so hundreds of waypoints can clutter the display making it harder to read, have a look at This page for some further ideas - Mike
