Anyone else finding the TomTom LIVE speed cam database a bit pathetic?

So far, out of maybe ten speed cameras I've passed, it's completely failed to know about two of them, and a third I was alerted to 200 yards past the actual camera. All these three are Gatsos which have been present (in the same location and direction) for well over 5 years on very popular/major roads.

I thought this was supposed to be borrowing the Road Angel database? I've not used a Road Angel but I find it hard to believe their database is anything like as patchy as this. My parents' Origin B2 GPS detector knows every camera I've ever passed.

Hope this improves as £7.99 a month feels more and more expensive if the services aren't up to scratch, and if I'd only use it for Google Search and traffic then it's touch and go if it's worth it.

(Yes, I know I could use the PGPS database, but I'd have to remember to update it and I'm inherently lazy, at least TomTom Home updates the LIVE one automagically).

I tend to agree with you, the quality is questionable and Road Angel should be concerned as this may give them a bad reputation. I have to say I'm impressed with both the HD traffic and fuel prices but it will be difficult to justify £8 per month. I'm hoping TomTom offer a discounted subscription say £50 per year.

But by your own admission, it's downloading a load of rubbish (missing twenty percent of fixed cams could be considered rubbish I suppose). Sad

Alternatively you could drive within the speed limit!

Just a thought.... Very Happy

I've never yet been nabbed by a speed camera (although it is probably due!)

Hopefully they'll sort it out before my three month trial is up.

Haha! That's a fair comment! Very Happy Very Happy

One feature I'm missing in my car is to have preset buttons (three would be sufficient) on the steering wheel for the cruise control, that you could set to a chosen speeds. That would be very handy on roads with a lot of temporary speed limits as you could chose how fast you would like to drive in each of the speed zones. This would calm down the traffic and save fuel since you wouldn't have to use your brakes as much as before. But I guess the traffic in England is so heavy that you can't really make use of the cruise control anyway, can you? Wink
Does anyone know if this feature exists in any car on the market today?

Our Merc has a speed limit function separate from the cruise control. You can dial in a speed and it will not then exceed that unless you press the accelerator hard to cancel it.

It's easy to change the speed from the stalk so you could change it quickly as speed limits change. I use it a lot in SPECS and road-works etc where cruise doesn't work due to the constantly changing speeds. You retain throttle control, it just allows you the peace of mind that you cannot exceed the limit.
