Hi, Is it possible to download the MapSource program from the Garmin UK site, or MUST it be purchased on DVD/CD?

I've seen the available update, but I was sure I'd also seen the program download - though I can't find it again for the life of me! Confused

To get it as a download usually you log into MyGarmin and download it from there.

That's what I thought, but the only thing I can see is Update 6.14.1, which states "This software will not work unless you already own a MapSource product".

Garmin tell me the DVD is required but I'm convinced that the main program was available somewhere, but where Question

I believe that refers to the Maps. i.e. you can install that program but it's useless unless you own a map to load into it. If you have a Garmin Sat Nav you should be able to use it.

I have tried installing the Update, and indeed it doesn't work!

Maybe it's not worth the hassle to find the MapSource program itself; if it's that well hidden they probably don't want it found. A reason to pay.... ???

Do you see this screen at all?

If not you might want to redownload the file.

I've never had any problems installing MapSource on 2 PCs now. It was so easy to do i don't think i had any problems. Although i wouldn't discount the chance i'm either remembering incorrectly or there is something else you need to do i forgot about.

I think that the only way to get a full version of MapSource is when you buy a MapSource Mapping product.

My original copy came with my old GPS60 device as that comes with Trips and Waypoints - which included MapSource.

The program is totally pointless unless you have a map with which to use it. It's wasn't supplied with my original 660 as you don't have a map DVD either. But it came with subsequent map upgrades for the device. You need 6.14.1 for using the V2009 mapping - the previous version won't hack it.

I believe it's possible to manage POI's and create routes. Is it worth the effort though?

You will need the MapSource map appropriate for the GARMIN GPS system you are trying to create routes and POIs for.

It's worth it if you intend to do this often.
