Hello,

Any idea why the new Firmware (8.3) has a folder called SIMCARD?

Cheers

Not specifically, but in case you didn't know, the new x40 range have a SIM card built into the device.

At a guess, I would say that perhaps it is used as a mount point by the OS to actually access the contents of the SIM card.

No idea but mine has a file in it called "mobility.sim"

Probably to utilise HD Traffic when the HD Traffic Receiver sees the light of day over here.

What with the problems some have had this week, I'll bet we are all going to subscribe to that service pretty quick!!

Cheers

Don't you mean "when the HD Traffic Receiver sees the light of day over here"? Cool

Welll, I suppose the fact that sim files are being included in recent updates is a good sign for the marketing of an HD traffic add on.

I think this is more a sign that the programming branches for all the models are being brought into line to keep things simple and ensure commonality. I wouldn't leap to any conclusions on this being a sign that the HD Traffic accessory is imminent.

Don't forget it's been available in Holland for some time and they had the same earlier release versions as we did that did not have a SIMCARD folder.

I reckon it is because they can't be bothered to remove it, commonality is fine, but it is obviously not present as the Loquendo file versions have shown in recent posts elsewhere.

This file mobility.sim loads the details of the SIM in the x40 units

In an unused model the file is empty as:

[GPRS]
MNC=
ICCID=
IMSI=
IMEI=
Model=FA 00.01.04

but once the unit has connected to the network the details are uploaded as (the * are where I have masked the information):

[GPRS]
MNC=234**
ICCID=8944100030150*******
IMSI=23****
IMEI=3542260*********
Model=FA 00.01.04
