Handsfree on the 730 is becoming a pain. Initially it would connect but every so often I could hear caller but they couldn't hear me. Now since yesterday only change was updated PGPS seed cameras so not related, some calls get into a sound loop - having done a search sounds like the issues Dennis etc had with the 520.
SO do I send it off for repair - but I will really struggle with out it. Or do I cut my loses and have a proper bluetooth handsfree kit installed for my phone.
I quite like the screen idea from the tom tom so I guess some sort of Parrot. |

nice to hear they fix the problem on the 730 version NOT ..was toying with the idea of updating ,wont bother now

Fingers crossed I haven't had a repeat of this on my 720 yet since I took off the RDS-TMC antenna. But that's no solution - the device is supposed to navigate, do Traffic, do phone hands free, do FM, do photos, do jukebox and all manner of things. And we expect all of them to work. Naiive, ain't we?
Now that the x30 devices still have the problem (which is obviously something in the firmware since whenever (x00??), what chances of the x40s being free of it? Not good, I'd suggest.

It may surprise you to hear me reply "YES". Witness the fact that I've had 7 GO720s, a 920 and a 930. I still have one 720 and the 920 - the 930 I bought within minutes (maybe) of it being released in ASDA and took it back less than 24 hours later when it did the phone thing on its first day. I desperately want the hands free to work - on my GO700 it was the best thing since sliced bread and I want to get back to that level of performance without going and shaking down my son-in-law to get my 700 back off him!
I am pessimistic simply because I believe that TT don't realise they have a problem with it. They offer the bog standard Helpdesk tricks like clearflash and reset and download latest app software, etc, etc, etc, without ever even considering there might be something wrong inside there, rather than we the users misbehaving with the devices. On the basis that there's nothing wrong, they are not going to look for and correct this problem, so I fear the application software will be perpetuated through upcoming models. But I soooooo hope the x40s don't have the problem - I'm holding off buying one until I hear something which makes me think that is the case. I seriously believe their Beta testing program is not robust enough - how many testers do they have who use the hands free as seriously as I do (driving all day with phone going regularly, 20 and more calls a day? Short calls, long calls, the business!).
Maybe I'd prove my optimism by going out and buying one tomorrow, but at £400 for a 940, it takes quite a lot of optimism! Now if I had a guarantee that the 940 works perfectly (as my 700 did), I'd buy one as soon as the shops open tomorrow and be happy to fork out the £400.

From my own (and very limited) experience, I'd say save your £400 for a week or two. I wish I had done so..... |

Are you saying that you have a 540/740/940 and it suffers this hands free problem?

No. I'm saying that I have a 940 and it suffers other problems. The LIVE service doesn't feel quite live yet. And I wish I had waited a couple of weeks or a month to let TT iron out some of the teething problems.
With regards to the handsfree - I don't seem to be able to get my 940 to make outgoing calls without touching the screen. Given my limited experience so far, I am not overwhelmingly impressed by the handsfree capabilities for that reason (but I have not witnessed the problem outlined in the original post in this thread) |
