I've got a TT740 on order, and am looking into cases and screen protectors. I'm aware that the current case offering from TomTom includes a strap, but the strap is supposed to fit on the device but that doesn't have a strap loop so the strap is useless. I'm therefore looking for something that will provide padding from a third-party. Any suggestions?

I've also used screen protection in the past. Is this needed in the latest devices? What is recommended?

Thanks, Matthew

Is the 740 screen the same size as the 720 and 730? That would help!

Yes the x40 screens are the same size as the x20/x30. I've never bothered with screen protectors and never had an issue, it'd be different if it was a stylus operated device perhaps.

As for cases, you could take a look in a camera shop, plenty of the compact camera cases are a good fit and often cheaper!

Have you thought of this type of protection for your unit? :

I don't know, Darren. It appears they are a British company so perhaps any interested parties can contact them.

Doh! Saw it was you who had posted the link and assumed this was a US/CAN site, sorry Embarassed A nice idea if you want to protect the device, damn ugly though!

By the looks of things from the link, that one will be no good for the x50, as the case will probably block the mic & light sensor.

Hi matthewj
When I had a PDA running Tomtom Navigator I did have a screen protector (from Writeshield) and very good it was too. However when I purchased my Tomtom 720 I had difficulty finding one to fit. In the end I gave up the search and after extensive use the screen is still unmarked. On reflection the PDA screen was made from a material that was easily marked but the 720 screen is made from glass (I think) and providing one doesn’t drop the thing onto concrete the screen should give service for some time to come. So, if I was you I wouldn’t bother.

My GO720 gets stuffed in my pocket with my loose change sometimes so I decided to get a screen protector. Couldn't find one to fit and then I saw a forum post that said the screen is the same size as the Sony PSP. Exclamation

Got a £5 protector from Game and it fits perfectly.

Downside is that there may be a minor effect on the touchscreen calibration but while I can live with that, you may not feel it's worth it.

I will just add that I bought a screen protector when I bought the unit. I used it without the protector while waiting for it to arrive and when it did, I didn't notice ANY difference in clarity or sensitivity and it certainly doesn't do any harm. It is a Brando protector from Ebay and since then I've bought them for my kids DS Lites and my Canon camera.
