Dropped my trusty old ONE V1 last night and now I have no sound whatsoever.

Eveything else works fine. Tried a reset. Tried turning sound off & on. Tried removing card and replacing.

No TomTom intro sound, directions or warnings.

Any ideas please? Rolling Eyes

The original 'one' has a headphone socket underneath, any sound out of that ?

Otherwise you may have dislodged the speaker wiring, or jammed the moving part of the speaker cone.

Brilliant idea! Why didn't I think of that? Thanks JR.

Sound OK through headphones so I need to inspect the speaker & mounts.

Anyone know the best place to buy a suitable screwdriver for the 2mm hex security screws Question

If the one is like other models of TomTom, they are called "Torx" screws, and you probably need a "Number 6".
Any good tool shop should sell them (often just as those little "bits" that go in an electric screwdriver - though I DON'T suggest you use one of those!)
Places like Maplin and CPC also sell sets of "security bits" with a handle for a few quid - useful for taking your kettle apart!

The screws have a hexagonal hollow in them but there is a pin or prong set in the centre of the hollow.

I looked at an Ebay advert for a replacement speaker and it said you need a 2mm HEX SECURITY SCREWDRIVER....................

Might be worth 'wiggling' the headphone plug in the jack incase it;s the disconnect which has been dislodged? When a headphone is plugged in the speaker is disabled.

I found a link that shows the inside of your tomtom, it has the wrong model picture , but steps 1 and 4 show the insides nicely.

Sorry about duff "Torx" info then.
But my mention of the security bits sets still holds true.
I just looked in my kit (from CPC I think) and it has both hex and star bits with a hole in the middle.

Laughing SUCCESS! Laughing

Just called into my local independent TV / electrical repair shop. Asked them what I needed and he lent me the bit I needed.

Turned out to be just the speaker plug that had come loose. Pressed it in and we are back on speaking terms again.

These old original ONES are obviously pretty sturdy. I dropped it onto a concrete pavement and I am amazed it is still in one piece. A good few years left in old Tom yet....................I hope.

Thanks to everyone again for the usual help and advice on this forum.

Excellent, always great when a fixe is relatively simple.

A couple of months ago, I tried to push my arm through the sleeve of a jacket with elasticated cuffs, while holding my Go720 Rolling Eyes
I managed to not merely drop it, but basically throw it about 8 feet across the pavement where it then slid (face down) for another few feet into the road.

Apart from a couple of tiny scuffs on the bezel... no harm done (but you should have heard my wail of horror!

My wife said later that she could probably fall under a bus and I wouldn't react as badly! Supreme Angel

What does she expect Andy?
Can SHE give you accurate directions to anywhere and remember where all the speed cameras are on the way? Wink
