Hi

I am trying to load the latest camera DB to a DNX8220BT. I can download it, unzip and load via POI Loader to an SD card. The Kenwood reads the card and says that internal memory will be updated. I select 'yes' and it tells me that the update was successfully completed. However there are no Custom POI loaded to the unit! I have tried different CSV files via POILoader and two different SD cards. Nothing ever shows up in the unit but it always tells me that the load is successful.

The two SD cards I used were a 1GB Sandisk Ultra and a 32MB Sandisk mini-SD with an adaptor.

The file on the card was in directory Garmin\POI\POI.GPI

I have seen another post re a Kenwood DNX7200 where they had a similar problem that was fixed with a different SD card but I have tried two cards - admittedly both Sandisk.

Garmin don't know why and Kenwood tech support are not sure either.
Does anyone have any ideas ? Sad

TIA

Steve

I recently figured this one out. I wanted to see all ESSO and Aral gas stations in Germany and needed to see the icons at big map scale so I could plan trips accordingly.

Bottom line: SET CUSTOM POI SCALE TO 8km (or some map scale in that neighborhood)
Go to the map menu in tools. There is a submenu where you can set the map scale at which custom POIs will appear. By default, I guess, the scale for custom POIs is something like 800m which means you won't see them unless the map view is zoomed to that very tight scale and you happen to be right on top of one of your custom POIs.

Everything was happening as described by steve99uk. I used POI loader, saved files to a 2gig sandisk sd card, system read the card and announced that the custom POIs were uploaded. However, when looking at the "Custom POI" screen, it doesn't display anything. The POIs are in fact there, you just can't see a list of them. (which is what I expected) When I went to the map view, I couldn't see my POIs.

IIRC you need to burn the files to a CD.

How did you burn the files to CD? Was it with the Windows built in CD burning software? If so, this will not work. You must use something like Nero or ImgBurn and "Finalise" the disk.

Does the x220 have a USB port or SD card slot?

It might work, try following the install guide but using a memstick instead of an SD card?

you need to run poiloader on your pc as opposed to on the device. poiloader will then create the files on the memory stick (you will need to select it as the target) - the device should then detect the files?
