|
|
I've bitten the bullet and bought & installed the new maps for my 720, but oddly I've now got 2 WE maps installed... Seemingly!
Now when I go to Manage Maps, I can delete one of them, BUT will it take out any of the new map data if I select the old map or am I safe to delete it and all the new map data will be safe?
Also are there any files that need to look out for?
Thanks
Warren. |

Make sure you have a backup of the maps on the PC then it doesn't matter if you delete one, you could allways put it back again later should you need to. Both map folders should contain all the necessary files needed to work correctly - Mike |

Cheers Mike.
It seems it was seeing the map that was on the internal memory + the one on the SD card as well.
Could I now copy the Western Europe map into the internal memory as well, just to be on the safe side, even though I've backed it up.
Also where does TTH save the download to? I can't find it anywhere on my PC? |

By default (unless you change the location in Home's preferences) the location of all downloads to your computer are found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\(yourname)\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads _________________ David |

You can put it on the internal memory IF it will fit, depending upon what else you have put on the internal Flash drive you might find the device struggles to accept the new map due to capacity vs map folder size - Mike |

Good thinking Batman!
I'll go and check it right now, if not then it'll have to stay on the SD card.
There's no detrimental effects of the map being on the card all of the time is there? |

No, there won't be any ill effects at all. I used to run two W+CE maps side by side, one on internal and one on SD card (just to compare them).
But I think that if you selected "Go720" as the device when you bought the map, then the map they should have assigned to you should be the correct "2GB" version that will fit on the internal memory. That was certainly the case with v7 maps, and I haven't heard anyone say it has changed with v8.
(Edited once just to put an "f" on the front of "fit")

Well, I deleted one and it was the internal one, so it seems.
I've now got 1,5Gb to play with on the internal memory, so the map wont quite fit unless I delete stuff from it, but as I don't know what I can & more importantly cannot touch/delete, I'll leave it alone, much as I'd like to put the map on internal memory just as a back up in case.
Thanks for your help guys.
BTW is there a definitive list of files that are mandatory for your TTG to function?
I think it would be quite useful to have a list of them so we can do a check against them if our TTG's stop working! |

I will post up some possible ideas to free up space, voices are an obvious choice, some of which are in the LoquendoTTS folder, also some of the CSpeech files in the map folder if you don't intend using ASR (speech recognition) while outside of the UK - Mike |

Do you need the speech files (csspeechxx.dat) files from all the countries in your map? If not, you can move them to your computer and save some space that way. _________________ David |

Depends really what you mean by "mandatory"... For example, you could say the TTS voices are not needed (if you don't use them), and the TT will still work fine if you delete that folder, but to other people that may be a disaster!
Here's a list (from TomTom) of the essential files to make a map work:
* cline.dat
* cname.dat
* cnode.dat
* faces.dat
* mapinfo.dat
* poi.dat
* tables.dat
* tmccodes.dat
* traffic.dat
* {mapname}.meta (only map v705 or higher will have/need this file)
* {mapname}.meta.dct (only map v705 or higher will have/need this file)
* {mapname}.pna
(but as I say, "poi.dat" is not actually essential if you don't mind not having any of Tomtom's own POIs).
The main system files vary a bit for different software versions but are basically:
* data.chk
* install.bif
* libaec.so
* mctx.dat
* system
* tomtom.ico
* ttsystem
Some people don't end up with "system" but I always have!
You would also want at least one voice in a "voices" folder although I think the machine will still *work* without it.. |
