Please could anyone tell me what the reason is for having a memory card slot - do I really need one and does it have to be just an SD card or will a SDHC card be ok?

Thanks

John

The x20 (and x30) models use additional sd storage as **additional** memory to internal instead of 'in place of' internal as lower end models do.

Therefore additional sdhc storage (x20 and x30 models can handle that type) can be used for additional maps, photos, mp3 files, audiobooks. It's like adding a larger hard drive to your computer.

Be advised that TomTom units can only WRITE to 4 gigs of the sdhc card but READ from larger sizes.

So, in summary, if you want to add a 8-gig sdhc card to your unit, you can BUT files like mp3 files should be copied to it using a card reader. Your unit won't 'see' the greater than 4 gigs to write but will be able to play files from that range.

(some of?) the newer maps are larger and you can't fit them all on the internal memory.
