Hello I am going to change my Satnav from a version 3 to a Version 4. I have backed up my existing unit to my laptop. Can I send the information backed up eg favourites POI's that I have installed inc Speed cams etc to the new V4 or do I have to put them all in again?
Any help appreciated.

No idea what models you are referring to (v3 and v4 aren't enough of a description), but can answer some questions anyway.
Your own POI files can be copied to the new map. Two files for each POI: abcde.ov2 and abcde.bmp. Stored in the named map folder ("Great_Britain" or "western Europe" etc.) on each device
Your favourites can SOMETIMES be copied from one machine to another so long as they are of similar features (i.e not if you are moving from a device without text to speech to one with, or between units with wildly different software versions.
Try copying the MapSettings.cfg file from the old to the new (again it is stored in the named map folder).
If that causes problems, go back to the old machine and re-save your favourites as POIs instead (if your model can "manage POIs" sufficiently to make a new POI category called MyFavourites" or whatever you like.
If you canot do that on the TomTom, you can use "POIEdit" to load the MapSettings.cfg file and convert it to a POI file to put on the new machine.
Speed cams... that depends on where you got them from.
If they are the database from THIS site, then you can copy them across as above, just like any other POI files.
If they are from TomTom themselves, then they are linked to your TT account and the one particular unit. You may be able to change your account to be on the new unit, but I think a call to Customer Services may be needed to transfer the "ownership" of the camera data to a new machine. |

I have now the same Tom Tom One V3 as before"Units have been swapped by dealer" I thought that using the restore facility on the TomTom home it would reinsate all I backed up on the original V3. But alas no it says that there is no back up?. I know there is somewhere.
Any further help please I really only after the favourites to install in the new V3 |

The problem is that these "v" numbers are routinely mis-used (especially by some retailers who should know better).
I'm guessing by v3 you really mean the ONE "Third edition"...
That is actually a v6 if it covers Europe or v7 if it is a "regional" one.
...and if by v4 you mean the new "One" with the foldaway mount (sometimes known as a "One 22" or a "One Series 30"), then that's really a v8.
See how confusing it is?
Now your favourites...
As I said above, your favourites are stored in a file called MapSettings.cfg inside the map folder.
Home will have stored its backups in a folder on your PC. You can find out where, by going to the Tools menu in Home the "Home Preferences" and selecting "Folder Preferences".
Alternatively, you could just ask Windows Explorer to do a search for that file over the entire PC.
Please remember for the future that we recommend you DO NOT use Home to make your backups though.
