Greetings, my first post.
Got a760 yesterday and I'm already snooping around inside it. One thing I've discovered (even though Garmin Tech. Support said you can't) is that Google Earth accepts the current.gpx file unaltered and displays your trips. Nice!!
My question is; just how long can I expect a 10,000 point trip to last? I did a 7 mile trip today and then looked at the log (using Excel). It seems to have plotted 300 points in 20 minutes. By my reckoning that only gives about 11 hours driving. Am I right? I suppose it's OK for a day trip but if I'm going long distance I'd have to dump the file to a laptop each evening.
I've been reading about the "hidden" trip log archive feature a-la Zumo but I'm not sure if I want to use old firmware. Why the heck would Garmin cripple such a useful feature? To get us to buy Zumos? Seems a stupid decision to me.

I'm currently trying to work out how far the 10,000 points will go as well, as I have a trip to Italy coming up.

After resetting my trip log, I currently have data using just under 10,000 points, which have been incurred during approximately 12 hours of driving.

However, it has overwritten the data for the earliest journies I did after resetting the log.

I don't know if there is any way of changing the sampling time to extend any of that.

I estimate between 800 and 1000 miles

Yeah, it would be interesting to know how it decides when to plot a new point i.e. every x seconds or every x yards or possibly a combination of both determined by some "journey twistiness" algorithm.

It's all a tiny bit disappointing because earlier this year I did a motorcycle hire holiday in Andalucia (BMW 1200GS if you're interested) and the bike had a Zumo 500 fitted. Its trip log features were great - you could archive and manipulate the data from the Zumo.

All the 760 advertising blurb talks about the trip log ability but having got it home I finally discover that there's this current.gpx file that you have to cook yourself.

It's truly bizzare that, according to some clever people on this board, the feaure is still there but buried under a firmware release which has disabled it. I suppose the good news is that the data is at least collected and we can have fun extracting hacking around with it.

My brand new 760 (bought this week from Halfords £220) has Ver 2.7 firmware. Has anybody tried to re-enable the logging feature with any success?
