|

Heard on another forum today that v8.010 seems to have been withdrawn.
He had updated his One XL to v8 but didn't like it. When he contacted TomTom to find out how to rollback, they told him:
Quote: | It has come to our attention that the latest software update for the One XL did not work as well as we had hoped and some features of the TomTom were affected. We have now removed this application update from our TomTom Home Servers and we suggest that you remove this update from your device and your computer. |
v8.010 does seem to have been pulled. I can confirm that it is no longer offered for my Go720 either.
Only v7.481 is available to me now (but I don't want that either! ) |

I've been using v8.010 since its release, and have had no more problems with it than with previous versions, certainly not enough to consider rolling back. _________________ Anita

|
|
I managed to load version 8.010 onto my 720T yesterday evening. Used it today to travel from Huntingdon to Bristol. Upon departing the screen showed a traffic incident with a 3 minutes delay tag; I ignored this and continued on my way. Halfway down the M5 the voice shouted out that the delay was now 11 minutes and would I like to re-route. I touched the screen where it said "yes" and it re-planned immediately. So it would appear that the TMC is now working as it should.
Now for the "problems"; firstly I no longer have an audible warning when approaching speed/safety cameras (I vaguely recall this also happened once before and I had to connect to the computer to reinstate the warning). The other "bug" regards the spoken voice. When using "Kate" for navigation instructions the sound is very crackly and distorted. This can be solved by using "Jane" or turning down the volume, but then the overspeed warnings etc. are too quiet. Any fix? |

I was wondering if this was just a panic response to all the "My compass doesn't work!" complaints they must have had?
Just like they did when a few people moaned they couldn't get ALG on v7 maps (even though the icon was greyed out!) |

I used to find this happened sometimes with earlier versions, but not with v8 - so far!

I use Kate and find it perfectly clear. Have you tried deleting it and downloading again via HOME? _________________ Anita

You're probably right, Andy. When you're getting loads of complaints it's so much easier to withdraw the software than it is to fix it, even if most features are working well for most users! _________________ Anita

Don't forget that 8.010 was withdrawn at an earlier time after being available for a few hours or so. When it was again available for distribution, turned out to be the same code as it was the first time.
Maybe this is TT's solution to all problems. Distribute ... withdraw ... distribute ... withdraw ... |

Hi
I have been using V8.010 since it came out and have not had any problems with it. Everything works just fine .

Maybe it was another move to discourage people from trying to download v8 maps.
When/if v8 maps for pre-x30 devices are released, TT will have to make v8 software available too and maybe better than the original v8.010 release....here's hoping _________________ Andy

Me too, but let's hope they don't call it 8.010 so that those of us who got that won't miss out on the "improvements". _________________ Dennis

Call me a cynic, but I would guess the reason is they have realised there is a 'backdoor' (or whatever the correct name is) allowing hackers to copy maps or something - I have seen someone say that v8 maps can be installed on earlier models running 8.010 _________________ Alan

I have been trolling around other forums and on some there are reports that Tom have also pulled the V8 maps as well.
Anyone got anymore on this.
I tend to agree that this is a countermeasure with the app, i bet it reappears with a non working format for x20 devices. |

I know most of you will take a regular backup, but if you have vs 8,010 and a version 8 map installed to your x20 now might be a good time to take a full Windows Explorer backup.
If TT release new software there is no guarantee your current map will work with it (it should do, but I hate that word "should") - re-installing a backup taken now is going to be much easier than dealing with CS should this all go wrong at a future point - Mike |

Good advice about the Backup, because since updating to V8 software and V8 maps on my 520T it has never worked better. Last Sunday drove from Sunningdale to Lincoln. TMC worked spot on around the M25 telling me about 11 min delays offering to re- route me, told me 3 or 4 times traffic had changed on route and it was correct. Lane Guidence working at junctions on M40 M25 and A1.
All in all it all worked a treat. I would be very upset now if they stopped it working. _________________ TomTom Go 950 Live.
