I'm not sure whether this is a 'feature' or a 'problem'.

I set the battery preferences to 'Never Power off' and uncheck the 'switch off when external power is lost' but it still decides to turn itself off after a few minutes while its sitting in its desktop cradle and playing music.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

If it is sat in the cradle connected to the PC it is designed to switch off after a few minutes, this isn't an error it is working as intended - Mike

All I can think of is to tap the screen every few minutes.
Not a great solution, I know....

There is post on this forum that details how to disable this feature, the question is one of finding it Laughing - perhaps we can have a race to locate the thread by using the search facility Wink - Mike

If the docking station is powered but not connected to the PC, it will play and charge at the same time. Either connect it to a powered hub that isn't connected or use a mains charger with a USB socket.

I guess TomTom were expecting you to play MP3s on your computer while you are sat at it and not directly off the TT.

EDIT: last sentence removed because I didn't preview first. Embarassed

Perhaps it is, but whilst the device may be expected to power off when it's not active, surely it ought to consider itself active if playing MP3s (or doing anything else, for that matter).

OK, so TomTom may not do logical, but supposing you were trying the handsfree and in the middle of a test call when the device powered itself off...well, that's assuming the handsfree stayed connected for long enough to power off mid-call.

It looks like TT's definition of inactive may be different to other peoples'.

The fact that the device automatically restarts after disconnecting it from the PC can become a bind and the auto power off perhaps has its uses, but presumably more useful when it is actually inactive.

Has anyone actually looked at the link Oldboy posted earlier, it contains the answer to the problem - Mike

Yes, I looked at it.

However, I'm not sure that it would be the solution for everybody all of the time.

For example, my 720 went through a phase of deleting all POI warnings each time I'd connected it to my PC, so I've taken to checking the warnings after each connect/disconnect. If I get sidetracked by the forum or checking e-mail etc, the device may have turned itself off before I get around to checking those warnings and on these occasions, the auto power off is a nuisance. When I check the POI warnings immediately, I'm able to then leave the device to power off of its own accord in a beneficial way.

Perhaps I'm just confusing matters.

And Anita (who certainly knows what she is doing) couldn't get it to work until she moved her W&CE maps to SD card and put the new v7.20 UK & RoI maps in the internal memory, which all seems pretty odd...

Embarassed Well there's a compliment, Andy, especially coming from you, but sadly unwarranted. The little I do know has been learnt entirely from the knowledgeable and patient experts on these forums!

I'm not entirely sure it was moving the W&CE maps that did it. I have a nasty feeling I screwed up somewhere and it was just that it needed v720 maps in order to disable the feature.

Did you guys submit this to TomTom? They're usually very open with these types of things, and they would probably offer a fix or an option in a future update.

Recently they corrected a glitch in the ONE 130S text to speech function that was something people in a forum found a fix for.
