|

Ok, maybe this has been discussed already, but I was unable to find it.
Has anyone been able to use the new MapShare feature for changing road speed data successfully? The implementation of this feature appears strange to me as I cannot select only one specific stretch of the road where the change shall be applied. The unit automatically selects a much too long stretch of the road and doesn't let me deselect the parts that shall not be affected. The problem only seems to appear on a motorway though. If I change road speed on local roads in my home area it seems to be working.
Anyone got a clue about this? Actually, I would say that the implementation of the "change road speed" feature in the 7.481 version of the software was better, except that the information wasn't immediately applied to the map.

Have a read through the first two posts in This Thread, the first post shows a simple change, the second explains how to alter a small section of a much larger road. There are problems with using this in the UK, but in Sweeden you use KPH so it will work fine - Mike |

What device, software and map are you using? When you make your selection is there an option to 'Edit' in the bottom left hand corner?
It seems to me that the roads can only be selected to or from junctions with other roads, as opposed to what is really required, which is point-to-point selection. Obviously there are far fewer junctions on motorways so the selection points are also few and far between.
This has been mentioned to TomTom on more than one occasion.
Edited to add: Your sig doesn't show in the Reply window. I see your device info now. _________________ Tim |

Ok, thanks for that clarification. That explains why it behaves this way. With this implementation the feature becomes quite useless since temporary changes of road speeds between road junctions are common, at least in Sweden.

Mike - what problems are these? I've notice that since updating to 8.010 on a 720 that some maximum speeds are showing 29/39/49 not 30/40/50mph |

They do appear to all show 1 mph lower than what you set. And you can't set them 1 mph higher to allow for that because it will only accept increments of 5 mph/kph _________________ TT Go Essential |

As this happens on some (but not all) speeds, it's suspected that mapshare updates may be recorded in km/h and that this is a rounding error between entering the data in mph, converting to km/h then converting this back to display on screen.
Another bit of careful testing by TomTom. _________________ Gerry

That looks right. I changed to kilometres & tried to set 63, which should be 40mph. It defaulted to 65 kph but, when I changed back to miles & ran a demo, it come up as 40mph and not 39mph as it did when I tried to set it in miles. _________________ TT Go Essential |

Hi Calomax
this approach works for 40mph, but not 30 or 50mph.
50kph gives 31mph & 80kph gives 49mph (OK so it's only 1 mph but it's still wrong). |

Any way to clear the data once entered? I tried a restore to before I updated the speed, but it's still reporting 29mph on my road.
a minor, but annoying error. _________________ iPhone 12 Pro

Not only this, but my 720 then randomly selects which corrections it might use - read here _________________ Andy

Right! I just found that by electing to "Remove Corrections" in Home\Tools\Mapshare! I have removed the 29mph speed limit I had set on my road and other map corrections I made myself! but strangely, the corrections from others still remain.
Just have to backup & re-enter the local corrections, then I'm all set again.

That's because you can choose to remove your own corrections, those made byTomTom/others, or both lots. _________________ Tim |

But still no way to remove ONE correction (even if it was just to remove the LAST correction). Make one mistake and you have to lose the lot (unless you'vew got good backups of course!) |
