Connect up and when you have Home running, start Windows Explorer too and use it to look for the disk drive occupied by the device - E, F, G, whatever - my three come up as M, Q and S. It MUST be there, can't be seen by Home unless it IS there.

(Have you tried connecting with a blank SD card in the slot? - it would ask which you wish to connect to, internal or external memory).

Why on earth delete the TT content and run from an SD card. The card is useful for additional stuff (extra maps, text files, music files, photos, whatever additional stuff the XL is capable of handling), not as a replacement for the internal memory, which MUST surely be faster than reading the card?

Some devices can have trouble gaining a drive letter if the next available slot is used by a network device.

If you have for example:

C:\ Windows
D:\ CDROM
E:\ Networked drive

Then attached devices cannot sometimes seem to jump past the E:\

Remap the networked drive further down the list leaving E:\ free and that may be the answer.

Also, ensure that you have no USB flash drives attached when attaching the TT

Don't forget the One XL CANNOT share the internal Flash memory and the storage card, it can only use one or the other.
If, when it boots up it finds the TomTom system on the SD card it will boot from the card, all the required files MUST be resident on the card.
If when it boots up it cannot find the TomTom system on the SD card it will boot from the Internal Flash memory and use data only from the Internal Memory, the data on the SD card will not be seen by the device.

Only the x20/ x30 devices can "share" storage locations allowing a user to expand the internal flash memory by fitment of a larger SD card.

I would use Windows Explorer to copy the data from the device to the PC, then get an SD card reader to write the files to the SD card rather than using the TomTom as a card reader - Mike
