I have recently bought a Navman S70 with pre-installed UK safety cam trial. I'm new to the world of custom POIs and safety cam updates in particular, so please can anyone advise me how Navman's own safety cam database compares with PocketGPSWorld's UK safety cam custom POIs? Obviously the PocketGPS World option is cheaper, but I'm not sure which to go for.

If I decide to purchase and install PocketGPSWorld's third party product, should I uninstall or deactivate the Navman database or leave both operating side by side?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Obviously this question gets asked rather a lot!
Rather than keeping repeating ourselves, one of the moderators here put together a single page listing all the benefits of the PGPSWorld database over the others (with links to further info and discussions).
You can read it HERE

Thanks for the prompt reply. The links provided are helpful, but I'm left with a couple of questions:

1. Do I need to disable the built-in Navman speed cam trial? I guess the answer is "yes" but would appreciate confirmation.

2. If I want to be alerted to the limit of individual speed cams it would seem that I have to download, and regularly update, 24 sub-categories as shown in Option 3 of the Beginner's Guide. There is reference to a POI-Sync service which is no longer available and this would doubtless have made this process much easier, but as it now stands it seems a rather time-consuming and unwieldy process.

Any comments or advice, please?

Usual advice is to remove or switch off the other alerts to avoid double warnings, but there's nothing to stop you running them side by side for a while to compare them.

To update the full speed-zoned set is just as quick as the single file version. You just copy and paste a block of 24 small files rather than one big one.
All the set-up remains the same, all you do is overwrite the datafiles with the new versions. Takes me 2 minutes.

Finally, no POI Sync cannot work with the database in its present form.

And just to clarify, the POI-Sync service when we did support it, worked with TomTom only anyway. As we support dozens of devices we chose not to build our service around a system that could support just one of them.

The current version of NavDesk 2008 doesn't seem to allow you to do this - the process is substantially different from that shown in the PGPSW on-line guide for installing in Navman. You have to add or update each Custom POI file separately.

Presumably if I could find where Navman stores these files I could just copy and paste them, so I've tried doing a Windows search for the csv files for a couple of custom POIs I've installed already, but can find only the icon files.

Also it appears that I would have to omit the mobile cam database due to the POI limit resident in the Navman S Series.

So the process doesn't seem as straightforward as you suggest.

Many thanks for your advice to date.
