I have downloaded the relevent speed camera files (Drive smart and Garmin which I have both) and as I try to open the saved files, windows doesn't recognise the programme and as such cannot download or open. Can anyone help please.

I don't know either Drive Smart or the Garmin, but why would you want to Open them with Windows? Confused

Have you read the instructions found Here and Here?

Hi Richard and thanks for the reply..
I have followed the instuctions to download the database for Drive Smart (Darren wrote an article about it) and it saves into the folder. I then 'extract all' and it does so, apparently. Then because I now want to open it, a box comes up stating that windows doesn't recognise the programme. I am not asking windows to open it, it does it by default.

However, I just had a thought. Am I supposed to have my machine (drive smart thingy) connected to my pc at the time???

I appreciate this may or may not be obvious but it doesn't actually say wheter or not to connect it.

The Garmin Quest is a popular sat nav and I have it updated. There are a lot of garmin's about and although a tad more expensive than other formats, they are good and a long history with nautical and aviation. It would be fantastic to also have european cameras on it too.

Although I don't know the DriveSmart specifically, yes you WILL want to have the unit attached to the PC. What you are doing is just using the PC to COPY the files you've downloaded and extracted onto your device. The PC itself does not know what they are, nor does it need to.

In the same way, my TomTom uses ".ov2" files for the camera database. As supplied, a standard PC has no idea what these are either, but that doesn't stop me copying them on to my TomTom once it's connected by USB.

There is a European version of the Database available from PGPSW too. Just select it in the drop-down boxes.
If your Garmin uses the POILoader software, you need to colect all your POI files in one place on the PC first and upload them ALL TOGETHER, as every time you upload it will erase the previous lot you installed.

Well thank you Andy that is a fantastic help.

As regards to the garmin, I have City Navigator V9 and I really cannot find in my books whether it uses POILoader or not. Would it be wise and proper to contact Garmin to find out??

Leaving the garmin aside, the info regarding the Drive Smart is fantastic. I have a USB to 9 pin on its way to me now, apparently and will certainly update the forum with the progress which I'm sure will be spot on. However, I'll await advice re contact to Garmin.

Thanks sooooo much

Tony
