Introduction - advice req regarding Nuvi 250W

Hello, I'm from Northern Ireland and as this is my first post I feel I should say hello

My friend (Who is a lorry driver) has just purchased a Garmin Nuvi 250W. He does not have a PC and I've been tasked with updating his safety camera database. There is UK and European mapping installed on the unit, I only require safety cameras for Northern Ireland, Rep of Ireland and mainland Britain.

There is a system installed and turned on in the options because he informed me that when he drove past a fixed camera site a visual warning was displayed on the screen. There was no audible warning however, is this normal? He also drove past a site that is frequently covered by camera vans, there was no warnings of any type at this location. (Other systems have it tagged)

I've not seen the unit yet but I do know that it isn't supplied with a USB cable so I'll get one of those. By browsing the Garmin UK website it would appear that "Cyclops" database is supplied at a cost of £29.99. Not sure if this is per year or lifetime as before any further information is provided the unit has to be registered on the Garmin site.

Is the Nuvi 250W compatible with the safety camera databases available at Pocket GPS world? If so should I register here on his behalf and use the databases available or register with Garmin and use their "Cyclops" system?

the cyclops database is £29.99 per year.

and yes, the nuvi range are fine with the PGPSW database

republic of ireland is covered under our 'european' database (due to using kph rather than mph) but to install both you would benefit from reading this guide: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=57496

Thanks for the reply MaFt. Looking into getting myself one now too (Seem like a nice toy!) I want a Garmin with Bluetooth capability so it'll either be a 310, 660 FM or 710. Then I'll be databasing
