Having decided after much deliberation to buy a garmin 760 I decided to connect my i3 to the computer to remind myself how to update it. My computer has been reformatted since I last connected so I had to reload the drivers and download the webupdater. It seemed fine and the only major update seemed to be an improved voice. So far so good. Today I decided to have a look at the poi loader as I never really understood it. However, when I try to connect the computer says new hardware found, not recognising the fact that I loaded it yesterday and when I try to reload it it sets off looking promising then comes up with this message:

The file "gmwusb.sys" on[Unknown] is needed.
Type the path where the file is located and click OK

It then says;

Copy files from,

and gives

c:\windows\ServicePackFiles

if I click the downward arrows it gives various unintelligible options none of which appear to have anything to do with Garmin. If I try to reload the drivers the computer tells me they are alrewady there.

HELP

Are you sure it not "grmnusb"

You should have a folder called c:\garmin\usb drivers, try using that one. It maybe in a sub folder called i386.

Thanks Paul. Managed to reinstall it and loaded some new pois from this site. Now it's frozen and I can't beyond it telling me that my maps are out of date when I turn it on! Mad

You did see the note on the POI download page "Special Note to i3 users: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL MORE THAN 85 POI CATEGORIES AS THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR UNIT TO FAIL TO BOOT!"?

It's a long time since I used my i3 and I can't remember what the solution was. I'm working through some search results to try to find a fix. I'll get back soon! Does your i3 have a card or just internal memory?

It's a transflash card. Must make sure I understand what I'm doing before I do anything to the new machine. On the poi page I did select certain categories but when I tried to download them I think it just downloaded the lot. Didn't read i3 note so just clicked to put them on evn though I was thinking "I'm sure this will be too much info for the i3". Just thought it would fail to load if there was too much. What a prat! Confused

ok, you may be alright then!

if you have a transflash card reader (or a micro-sd to sd adaptor) i got one included with a useless 32mb TF card from ebay for about £3 Smile if you're really stuck i can loan you one but i'd need it back! Laughing Out Loud!

then simply delete the following file.

[transflash card]/Garmin/POI.gpi

then reboot.

I certainly thought my i3 was terrific, but things have moved on a bit now.

I was going to give mine to a friend who's never used satnav, but it seems to have died. Crying or Very sad

Thanks very much. I'll see if I can get hold of a card reader. Is that likely to be a problem? I'll give Maplins a try.

Cheers

The latest version of PoiLoader has the option to delete ALL added poi's.

You could try that.

Have you tried a FULL reboot of the i3. Hold Left button, Wheel button down and then the Power button at the same time. Then follow the on-screen instructions.

That should clear the maps out of date problem.
