Bought a second hand iPAQ 6915 and istalled my version of TT6. Got everything working eventually but cannot alter the home address permanantly. As soon as the machine is switched off it goes back to the original home address of the previous owner.
I could find no evidence of Tomtom on the machine originally,so am perplexed as to what to try? |

mapsettings.cfg which is a file within the map folder on your device will be set to read only, copy it to the PC and use Windows Explorer to locate the file, right click it and select Properties, de-select the read only checkbox.
Once done copy the file back to the map folder on the memory card and you will be able to store your home location - Mike |

| Check "MapSettings.cfg" hasn't been set to "read only" in the file preferences? |

Sorted thanks.Just the 7 digit look up on the post code and I will be the complete package. |

| There should be a folder in the Root of the memory card called "zip" and this contains the postcode files, it is quite possible if you have installed using Home that you missed the checkbox to include the postcode data (its eay done, I did this the first time I installed it) - connect the device via Home and select Install to my device then choose Postcodes - Mike |

I assume you have fixed the issue, I very much doubt I would be very good with marriage guidance though as you cannot find the power off button too easy  and a restore to "out of the box condition" is totally out of the question after a few years - Mike |

I could have the potential to turn into a "stalker". When I was on Tomtom Home I decided to increase the number of voices I had on offer.Now I have no voices at all. What have I done wrong.

I guess the mistake you made was to use TomTom Home, try connecting the device again and start TomTom Home, select Add Maps, Voices followed by Voices, scroll down the list and select Add next to the voice file you want to install.
OR
Shut TomTom Home down and copy the required voice files from your backup (voices folder) to the voices folder on the TomTom using Windows Explorer, the files will be named data04.chk, data05.chk, data06.chk etc - Mike |

Mike,
Similar question on TT6, running on a Navman PiN. Home location is deleted, as are favourites, after switching off. The cfg file is not set to read only, but to archive. Any ideas?

Write access/ lock switch on the memory card, is it set to the lock position per chance?
When you look at the card with the 45 degree notched corner top right, there is a switch on the left of the card, make sure this is slid to the top position i.e. nearest the gold contacts if you look at the other side of the card - Mike |

Definately set on unlock, as I have copied some other files to it today.

Both, but mainly a card reader.
