Hi All,

My apologies if already answered somewhere, but as always im toying with the warning distances of the mobile sites.

The static cameras are easier as they dont move and you know the exact spot and how long you have got before you drop the anchor.

I would like to know if there is a set distance between the mobile camera and the car before its speed gets recorded and checked.

i.e, if the mobile camera was on the top of an overbridge on a motorway, how far away down the road on the approach to it, is the radar set to look for ? I take it your speed is not actually checked at the moment your going under the bridge if you see what i mean?

Would this always be the same distance at all speeds?

My current warning sets for both static and mobile cameras are, on TT700 at 70mph is 800yrds, on my XDA Orbit its 1100yds to take into account the processer speed is slower to detect.

Many Thanks!

MPW

My understanding is that Mobile cameras have a range of a 1000 yds. I believe that they are normally not used at greater than 800 yrds for improved accuracy, usually in a 70mph scenario.

This would be limited also by straight line visuals.

I've never put it to the test. Wink

That's correct, although units such as the LTi20-20 can measure the speeds of a vehicle at ranges in excess of 100yds they are rarely used in such circumstances because of the difficulty in accurately targetting.

Presume that was a typo, and you meant "1000yds" Darren?

Umm, thats interesting then and gives it a real spin.

So really, even if you was warning you had a 70mph ( or any speed ) camera at say 800 yards - you could even be in the detection zone before you get a warning its there?

What do people suggest these mobile sites should be set at?

Mine are ( for mobile cameras )

TT700 XDA
20mph 250 600
30mph 350 700
40mph 400 800
50mph 500 900
60mph 600 1000
70mph 800 1100

Do you think these give a reasonable reflection of whats needed.

Note... on the XDA they are set alot higher due to slow CPU speed, even though say its 1100 yards on a 70, when it flashes it says only about 0.5 under the POI ( around 850 yds ) which then give it an alighment with the TT700.

Many Thanks

I do 10yds for every mph for fixed cameras (gives ~15 seconds warning) and DOUBLE that for mobiles.
so I have 300yds for fixed and 600yds for mobiles @30mph, going upto 700 yds for fixed and 1400yds for mobiles @70mph
